To apply for the post of a primary teacher in UP government schools, the candidate must satisfy any of the following UPTET eligibility criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university and a 2-year Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) or Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) or Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)
    Note: Candidates in the final year of D.Ed./D.El.Ed. may also apply
  • A Bachelor's degree and a 2-year Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) course
  • A Bachelor's degree and a Basic Training Certificate (BTC) for distance education
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks and completed the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) course
  • Candidates who passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year B.Sc./B.Ed. from a UGC or NCTE-recognised institution.

Additional information

  • Aspiring Sanskrit and English teachers (primary) must have Sanskrit/English as their main subject in the Bachelor's degree, in addition to the mentioned qualifications.
  • Aspiring Urdu teachers (primary) must have Urdu as the main subject in their Bachelor's degree, along with the qualifications. Additionally, they must either have a 2-year BTC in Urdu training from an approved UP institution or should be a Moallim-E-Urdu degree holder before 11/08/1997.

For the upper primary level (Classes VI to VIII), teachers

Aspiring candidates for the upper primary level teacher post in UP schools should meet any of the following UPTET eligibility criteria to appear for the exams.

  • Bachelor's degree or Post-Graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks and a B.Ed./B.Ed. in Special Education from a University Grants Commission (UGC) or RCI-recognised institution
    Note: Candidates in the final year of B.Ed. are also eligible to apply
  • Bachelor's/Post graduate degree and a 2-year D.El.Ed. course
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks and completed the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) course
  • Candidates who passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year B.Sc./B.Ed. from a UGC or NCTE-recognised institution.

Additional information
