The rarest element on this planet is Astatine. The atomic number of Astatine is 85 and At is the symbol used to represent it in the periodic table. Astatine is derived from the Greek word Astatos, meaning “unstable.” Only about 25 grams naturally occur in the world at any given time. Its existence was foretold in the 1800s, but it was finally discovered about 70 years later. Decades after its discovery, little is known about Astatine.
