NTPC Recruitment Through GATE Second List Released: Multiple lists are issued to fill vacancies, as some candidates join other PSUs or pursue higher studies. Uncertainty remains regarding NTPC's recruitment plans for GATE 2026.
NTPC's GATE 2025 recruitment drives have reached a significant milestone with the release of the second list for both main recruitment and the special Civil Engineering drive. This update provides crucial information for shortlisted candidates, outlining the next steps for document verification and presenting detailed branch-wise cut-offs. Understanding these lists and their underlying factors is key for aspirants.
NTPC had announced two recruitment drives through GATE 2025: a main recruitment and a special recruitment drive for Civil Engineering. While the first list for the main recruitment was previously released, the Second List is now available.
The NTPC official website now hosts the second list cut-offs and the list of shortlisted candidates for the Special Recruitment Drive. This special drive was specifically for OBC vacancies in Civil Engineering.
Civil Special Recruitment Drive (OBC Candidates - Engineering Executive Trainee through GATE 2025):
OBC Category: All India Rank (AIR) up to 320.
Persons with Disabilities (PH): All India Rank (AIR) up to 23,000.
Mining recruitment via GATE 2025 is still in process.
For the main NTPC recruitment through GATE 2025, the Second List has been released, inviting candidates for online document verification. Candidates whose roll numbers match those in the published list are shortlisted. This includes vacancies for CS/IT, Electrical, and other branches.
Multiple lists (like the second or even a potential third list) are issued if the initial recruitment rounds do not fill all vacant positions. This often occurs because candidates shortlisted in the first round may:
Secure positions in other Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) such as BARC, NPCIL, PGCIL.
Opt for higher studies like M.Tech at institutions such as IISc.
NTPC may also release further lists or increase seat numbers if new projects are initiated or if employees retire during the ongoing recruitment process. This practice ensures all vacancies are filled.
Observation of Trends:
A large number of Electrical Engineering candidates were shortlisted in the second list, possibly due to a high preference for other PSUs like PGCIL (a Maharatna category PSU). Similarly, for Mechanical Engineering, many candidates might have joined BARC or NPCIL.
The Second List Cut-offs for NTPC Engineering Executive Trainee (EET) 2025 recruitment are as follows:

Possibility of a Third List:
Based on past trends, a third list for the current recruitment is possible if a significant number of shortlisted candidates do not proceed with Document Verification (DV). This decision would be made after the current DV process concludes.
There is uncertainty regarding NTPC recruitment through GATE 2026. Historically, NTPC would release a short notification for recruitment during the GATE application period, but no such notification has been released for GATE 2026. NTPC does not provide future recruitment plans in RTI queries. In contrast, PGCIL has already issued a short notification for GATE 2026 recruitment. Further updates will be shared if any information becomes available.
