. Assertion: Only a single functional female gamete is formed from each primary oocyte cell

Reason: Meiosis in each primary oocyte gives rise to only one cell which functions as ovum

Best Answer

Answer ||| (c)

Solution ||| Secondary oocyte again divides by second meiotic division and again gives rise to two unequal-sized cells. Larger of these tqo is known as ovum (functional female gamete) and smaller one is second polar body. Sometimes, first polar body also divides sumtultaneously with secondary oocyte and gives rise to two polar bodes. Thus, in a complete oogenesis three polar bodies and one functional female gamete or ovum through a meiotic division is formed.
