In a class test containing 20 questions, 3 marks are given for every correct answer and (-1) marks are given for every incorrect answer. Gurpreet attempts all questions but only 12 of her answer correct. What is her total score?

(a) 28

(b) 27

(c) 29

(d) 30

Best Answer

Correct answer is (a)

Explanation: No. of questions = 20

Marks are given for each correct answer = 3

Marks are given for each wrong answer = -1

Gurpreet gives-

Correct = 12 answers

Incorrect = 8 answers

We know that:

Marks are given for each correct answer = 3

Marks are given for each wrong answer = -1

So, Marks given for correct answers = No. of correct answers * marks awarded for each correct answer.

That is , 12 x 3 = 36 marks

Marks given for incorrect answers = No. of incorrect answers * marks awarded for each incorrect answer

That is, 8 x -1 = -8

From this, we can form an equation :

Gurpreet's total marks = 36 + ( -8 )

= 36 - 8

=28 marks in total

Therefore, Gurpreet's total marks are 28 marks.
