Two cross road each 3m wide, cut at right angles through the centre of a rectangular park 72m by 56 m, such that each is parallel to one of the sides of the rectangle. Find the area of the remaining portion of the park?

 (a) 4750 m2

 (b) 9280 m2

 (c) 3657 m2

(d) 1292 m2

Best Answer

(c) Area of ABCD,

 Length = 72 m

Breadth = 56 m

 Area of ABCD, =72*56=4032m2

 Area of GHFE, =3*56=168m2

 Area of IJKL, first remove the shaded part that has been taken in the area of GHFE.

 Area of IJKL, breadth=72m,btreadth=3m

 Area=72*3=216m2

 Area of wxyz, = 3 × 3 = 9m2

 Area of IJKL without shaded portion =216-9=207m2

 Area of remaining portion = Area of ABCD – EFGH – IJKL

 = 4032 – 168 – 207=3864-207=3657m2
