(i) Decomposers are microorganisms that break down complex organic substances (dead remains and waste products of organisms) into simpler inorganic substances that go into the soil and are used up once more by the plants. (ii) Decomposers play an important role in the cycling of materials in the biosphere.

 

(iii) By decomposing  dead  bodies  of  plants  and  animals  they  help  in  cleansing the environment.  Example, Bacteria and fungi are examples of decomposers
