. What is the Divisibility Rule of 3

Best Answer

The whole number is said to be divisible by 3 if the sum of all the digits of the whole number is 3 times or even divisible by 3. Divisibility rules are also referred as a divisibility test.

Let's understand this with the help of examples.

For example:

a) In 1377, the sum of all the digits = 1 + 3 + 7 + 7 = 18. Since 18 is divided by 3, it means that 1377 is also divided by 3. Here, 1377 ÷ 3 = 459 where 459 is the quotient and the remainder is 0.

b) In 2130, the sum of all the digits = 2 + 1 + 3 + 0 = 6. Since 6 is divided by 3, it means that 2130 is also divided by 3. Here, 2130 ÷ 3 = 710 is the quotient and the remainder is 0.

c) In 3194, the sum of all the digits = 3 + 1 + 9 + 4 = 17. Since 17 is not divisible by 3, it means that 3194 is not exactly divisible by 3

3194 ÷ 3 = 1064 is a quotient and 2 is remainder
