i. Carotenoids act as accessory pigments. They absorb energy in mid region of visible spectrum and pass over it to chlorophyll.

ii. Carotenoids protect the chloroplast from nascent oxygen released during photolysis of water. i.e., from photo oxidation. Which also called photodynamic damage?

iii. Flowers, fruits etc. become more attractive for pollination & fertilization due to colour imparted by carotenoids.
