Ans. Ans. Addition reactions are a characteristic property of unsaturated hydrocarbons, i.e. Alkenes and Alkynes.
General formula of-Alkene: CnH2n,
Alkyne: CnH2n-2
For example, Ethene undergoes addition reaction with hydrogen when heated in the presence of nickel catalyst to form ethane saturated hydrocarbon.
Thus addition of hydrogen to an unsaturated hydrocarbon gives a saturated hydrocarbon.
This reaction is known as hydrogenation.
