“I can’t make you a doctor”, were Muskan’s Father’s words for her ambition. "Aap mat banana, main khud bann jaungi."
This was the response of a teenage girl with limited access to technology when her father accepted the family's helplessness, unable to gather funds to sponsor her education to become a doctor.
This is Muskan from a small town in Bilaspur, and today she is the proud rank holder of one of the toughest competitive examinations of India - NEET.
As Muskan shares the tale of her journey with the Physics Wallah team, she reminisces about the bygone days, remembering the lessons and learnings from her past. She looks forward to a brighter future where she will be moving a step closer each day to fulfilling her dream of being a doctor.
Hailing from Pendra, Bilaspur, Muskan was always the class topper in her school. A calm, shy and intelligent girl, she nurtured her love for education right from her childhood. In her conversation with Alakh Pandey, Muskan revealed how her father had been the guiding light in her life and how her mother and grandmother's ideals have shaped her to be the person she is today. A self-taught girl with an indomitable urge to qualify for the NEET examination, Muskan believed in taking charge of her life and steering it toward her dream.
Born and brought up in a middle-class family, Muskan faced struggles head-on since her early years. A forever topper in her school, it was the marks of her 8th standard (99.5%) that led her father and uncle to decide to support her in her path of academic excellence. When economic instability stood in the path of Muskan's education, her father served as a newspaper vendor for Dainik Bhaskar - selling his services from door to door. As Muskan received the government scholarship on topping her Class 12 examination, she bought a mobile phone, and this accelerated her journey toward her dream.
After clearing her board examination, Muskan chose Biology as her preferred subject and, since then, nurtured the dream of becoming a doctor. With constant guidance and support from her family and local tuition teachers, Muskan sat for her first and second NEET attempts, but her result was not as expected. As she prepared for her third try, she was too sick to study as her body gave in to fever and weakness. With three months left for her exam, she suffered from typhoid, and the third attempt also remain unsatisfactory.
It was during the preparation of her 4th NEET attempt that Muskan came across the online lecture sessions of Physics Wallah. Using technology as her sole instrument, she shared one of her friend's platform subscriptions and worked on her weak areas - seeking guidance from the online portal. Juggling ill health and the pressure of examinations, Muskan continued her battle against fate and immersed herself wholeheartedly in exam preparation.
After a massive struggle period of five years, Muskan finally achieved her dream of qualifying for NEET in 2023. The girl who once borrowed discarded stationery from her friends and seniors today holds the top rank in one of the most difficult competitive examinations. Apart from her hard work, determination and her family's unending support, love and care, Muskan acknowledged the contribution of Physics Wallah. As far as her plans are concerned, she aims to complete her MBBS education and dreams of being a gynaecologist.
Muskan's memorable journey of 5 years has led her to secure the top rank in NEET 2023. Her inspirational story teaches us the value of keeping our hopes alive.
