ESE + GATE Online Coaching and Complete Preparation with Physics Wallah

The UPSC ESE 2027 and GATE 2027 examination cycles have been announced. ESE 2027 Prelims is scheduled for 31 January 2027, while GATE 2027 will be conducted on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

Preparing for both ESE and GATE involves concept learning, regular practice and repeated testing. Physics Wallah combines these resources across the four engineering branches to support preparation for both examinations.

1. ESE + GATE Online Coaching

2. Mock Tests and Sectional Tests

Each branch includes 5 mock tests for ESE + GATE preparation. These tests provide an opportunity to practise questions in an exam-like format and assess preparation after completing different parts of the syllabus.

3. Practice Questions

The supplied preparation data includes 60+ weekly tests for each branch. These weekly tests provide regular opportunities to practise questions, revise completed topics and assess preparation throughout the course.

4. Live Classes and Recorded Lessons

ESE + GATE preparation includes 300+ live classes and 50+ recorded lessons. Live classes support regular learning, while recorded lessons can be revisited when learners need additional revision or want to return to a previously covered topic.

5. Study Material and Notes

Study material and notes can be used alongside live and recorded classes for revision. They provide additional reference material while learners work through technical subjects and prepare for both ESE and GATE.

6. Previous Year Papers

Previous year questions are useful for understanding how technical concepts are tested across ESE and GATE. Learners can include PYQs in their preparation after completing relevant topics and use them during revision to practise different question formats.

Civil Engineering Faculty

ESE and GATE have different examination formats, so preparation needs to account for the requirements of both. ESE consists of Prelims, Mains and the Personality Test, while GATE is conducted as a computer-based examination.

ESE Exam Pattern

The ESE Preliminary Examination has two objective papers carrying 500 marks in total. The Mains examination consists of two conventional papers carrying 600 marks, followed by a Personality Test of 200 marks.

GATE Exam Pattern

GATE is a 3-hour Computer-Based Test carrying 100 marks. The paper includes General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and questions from the selected engineering discipline. The question formats include MCQ, MSQ and NAT.

Question Types and Marking Scheme

For GATE, questions carry either 1 or 2 marks. Negative marking applies to incorrect MCQs, while MSQ and NAT questions do not have negative marking.

For ESE Prelims, both papers are objective in nature and an incorrect answer carries a penalty of one-third of the marks assigned to that question.

The syllabus for ESE + GATE varies by engineering branch. The four branches covered by the PW preparation programmes are Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. UPSC's ESE syllabus covers these four engineering disciplines along with General Studies and Engineering Aptitude.

For GATE, learners need to prepare Engineering Mathematics, General Aptitude and the technical subjects of their selected discipline. The technical syllabus differs for CE, ME, EE and ECE.
