A total of 13,343 candidates have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, while 1,046 candidates have been shortlisted for the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) Main Examination 2026.

All shortlisted candidates must log in to the UPSC portal during the application window to:
Pay the Mains examination fee of ₹200 (except exempt categories such as Female, PwBD, SC, and ST candidates).
Update or confirm scribe details, assistive devices, or large-font question paper requirements, if applicable.
Fill in cadre preferences.
Verify and submit the final application form to enable generation of the e-Admit Card.
Important: Even candidates with no changes to make must complete the final submission process. Failure to do so may result in not being issued an e-Admit Card for the Mains examination.

Total IFoS Vacancies: 80
Qualified IFoS candidates will also be required to complete an online application process (dates to be announced by UPSC), including fee payment where applicable, updating scribe and assistive device details, submitting cadre preferences, and confirming their application to receive the e-Admit Card.

Compared with 2025:
CSE Mains qualifiers have decreased from 14,161 to 13,343, while vacancies have reduced from 1,087 to 1,016.
IFoS Mains qualifiers have dropped sharply from 2,116 to 1,046, with vacancies declining from 150 to 80.
UPSC has clarified that the Prelims marks, cut-off marks, and answer keys for both CSE and IFoS 2026 will be published only after the entire examination process is complete and the final results are declared.
Clearing the Preliminary Examination is only the first milestone. Candidates should now focus on:

Essay and Ethics preparation,
Revision of optional subjects,
