The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a comprehensive assessment scheme for Class 10 students in the Middle East region whose exams were cancelled due to escalating regional conflicts. The affected countries include Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. This decision was taken to ensure fairness in student evaluation while considering the challenges posed by the situation.
According to CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, examinations scheduled between February 17 and February 28 were conducted smoothly before the cancellation. During this period:
Six major academic subjects, including Mathematics, English, and Science, were completed.
16 language papers and 22 skill-based subjects were also conducted for students.
This allowed the board to have partial evaluation data for a significant number of students.
To ensure a fair evaluation, CBSE has divided students into five categories based on the number of exams they were able to appear for:
Students who appeared in all exams – Their results will be declared based entirely on their actual performance.
Students who appeared in four exams – Results will be calculated based on the average marks of the best three subjects to evaluate the remaining subjects.
Students who appeared in three exams – Results will be based on the average marks of the best two subjects for the remaining subjects.
Students who appeared in two exams – For this small group, results will be based on the average marks of the two subjects for the remaining subjects.
Private/compartment students – Their performance will be evaluated according to the same methodology.
Bhardwaj emphasised that this approach ensures that no student is unfairly penalized due to the cancellation of exams beyond their control.
The results of Middle East students will be declared along with the rest of the CBSE Class 10 students across the globe.
Students who wish to improve their scores will have the opportunity to appear in the second board examinations, following the CBSE improvement policy.
Students should monitor the official CBSE website for announcements regarding the Class 10 result and related updates.
The board’s assessment scheme ensures a balanced evaluation, reflecting students’ performance fairly even if some exams were missed.
Students aspiring to improve their results in certain subjects can register for the second board examinations once notified.
This assessment scheme demonstrates CBSE’s flexibility and commitment to fairness during extraordinary circumstances, ensuring that students in the Middle East are evaluated equitably despite regional disruptions.
