
CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exam 2026: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a Two Board Examination Scheme for Class 10 students, as notified on June 25, 2025, which will be implemented from the 2026 examination cycle. Under this new system, students appearing in the main Class 10 board exams of 2026 will get an additional opportunity to improve their performance in up to three subjects through the Second Board Examination scheduled in May 2026.
CBSE has now released an official notice specifically for private candidates eligible to apply for this second attempt. Below are the complete details.
CBSE has specified certain categories of private candidates who will be eligible for the Second Board Examination 2026:
Candidates from the 2024–25 session placed in the Compartment category
Candidates who were marked under Compartment but were otherwise eligible for other exams and did not appear in the 2026 main exams
Such students will be considered under the third-chance compartment category as per CBSE rules.
The application process for the Second Board Examination must be completed only in online mode through the official CBSE portal:

Offline application forms are not permitted
Payments via DD, cheque, money order, or postal order will not be accepted
Applications without fee payment will be rejected automatically
Late submissions will also lead to disqualification
CBSE has clearly stated that the application is considered complete only after successful fee payment.
The LOC submission process will be conducted in two phases:
First Phase: April 16, 2026 (12:00 noon) to April 20, 2026 (midnight)
Second Phase: April 21, 2026 to April 22, 2026 (midnight)
Students are advised to apply during the first phase to avoid additional charges.
CBSE has confirmed that the Second Board Examination 2026 will follow the same syllabus as the main board examination. This ensures consistency in evaluation and gives students a fair opportunity to improve their scores without any change in academic content.
The fee varies based on candidate category and examination region:
Regular fee: ₹320 per subject
Approximate total per candidate: ₹1100 per subject slab
Late fee: ₹2000 additional per candidate
Fee: ₹2200 per candidate per subject

Offline payment methods are not allowed.
CBSE has issued strict warnings regarding application accuracy:
Any false information will result in disqualification
Fees will be forfeited in case of incorrect details or misrepresentation
Unfair practices may lead to strict disciplinary action
Applications submitted via cyber cafes or agents are the student’s responsibility
No corrections will be allowed for errors made by third parties
Students must also carefully select their exam city, as it cannot be changed later.
CBSE has confirmed that the entire process is completely online:
No physical/hard copy submission required
Students can download the submitted application for records
Photo and signature must be uploaded in JPG format under 40 KB
CBSE has added key safeguards for the application process:
Only system-generated subjects will be available for selection
Correct subject codes must be entered, especially for languages
Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected
Eligibility will be verified even after fee payment
Applications without successful fee submission will be automatically cancelled
