  5. Save your choices regularly. You can edit, reorder, or delete choices until the locking window.
  6. Review Mock Allocation 1 (June 8) and Mock Allocation 2 (June 10) — adjust choices based on likely outcomes.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • Registration and choice filling window closes on June 11, 2026. Do not wait until the last day — portal traffic is high near deadlines.
  • Candidates can fill an unlimited number of choices — fill as many as possible to maximize seat allotment chances.
  • Choices should be filled in your genuine order of preference. The allotment algorithm assigns the best possible seat based on rank and choices.
  • Use Mock Allocation 1 and 2 to understand likely outcomes and revise your choice list before locking.
  • Once choices are locked, they cannot be changed. Review carefully before locking.
  • AAT-qualified candidates can submit architecture-specific choices from June 7 after AAT results are declared.
  • During online reporting, keep the following ready: JEE scorecard, Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), and photo identity proof.
  • Fee payment deadline is June 26, 2026. Missing it can result in seat cancellation.
  • Candidates who get a seat in Round 1 can still participate in higher rounds by choosing the "float" or "slide" options during reporting.
  • JoSAA seat allotment is purely based on rank, category, and submitted preferences — there is no personal interview or additional test.

FAQs

When does JoSAA 2026 registration start and where do I register?

JoSAA 2026 registration and choice filling begins on June 2, 2026 at 5 PM. Candidates must register on the official portal at josaa.nic.in using their JEE Advanced or JEE Main credentials.

How many institutes are participating in JoSAA 2026?

A total of 121 institutes are participating — 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and 40 Other-GFTIs. Seats at all these institutes are allotted through JoSAA.

What is Mock Seat Allocation and how should I use it?

Mock Seat Allocation 1 (June 8) and Mock Allocation 2 (June 10) show candidates a preview of the seat they are likely to get based on choices filled so far. Use these to understand your likely allotment and revise or reorder your choices before locking. Mock allotments are not final and do not result in actual seat allotment.

What happens if I miss the fee payment deadline of June 26?

Failing to pay the seat acceptance fee by June 26, 2026 can lead to cancellation of your allotted seat for that round. You may lose eligibility to participate in subsequent rounds as well. It is critical to complete all reporting steps within deadlines.

Can JEE Main qualified candidates (not JEE Advanced) participate in JoSAA 2026?

Yes. JoSAA 2026 covers both JEE Advanced and JEE Main qualified candidates. JEE Advanced rank holders are eligible for IIT seats, while JEE Main rank holders can compete for NIT, IIIT, and GFTI seats. Both categories register on the same JoSAA portal.

How many choices should I fill in JoSAA?

There is no upper limit on the number of choices. Candidates are strongly advised to fill as many institute-branch combinations as genuinely interest them — more choices mean better chances of a favorable allotment, especially in higher rounds. Fill choices in your true order of preference.

What is the difference between "Float", "Slide", and "Freeze" during reporting?

"Freeze" means you are satisfied with the allotted seat and do not want to participate in further rounds. "Float" means you are willing to be allotted any better choice in subsequent rounds. "Slide" means you want a better branch within the same institute only. Choosing wisely here affects whether you may get a better seat in later rounds.
