What is the TOEFL Exam?

The TOEFL exam is a standardized test used to assess the English language proficiency of non-English speaking students who wish to study abroad. More than 13,000 universities use TOEFL as a standard language assessment for the four communication skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

International students looking to take TOEFL 2024 must qualify for the eligibility criteria to register for the test. Who can take a TOEFL test? ETS TOEFL has no specific guidelines for TOEFL exam eligibility. Anyone with a valid government passport can apply for the test irrespective of age, sex, color, citizenship, etc. A few popular TOEFL eligibility guidelines for Indian students are as follows:

  • TOEFL Age Eligibility: There is no age limit for the TOEFL exam 2024. However, applicants under the age of 15 must demonstrate parental consent to appear on the test. 

  • TOEFL Educational Qualification: There are no formal educational prerequisites for ETS TOEFL. However, most abroad universities require a minimum 10+2 qualification to enroll international students.  

  • TOEFL ID Requirements: Indian students must have a valid passport and Aadhar card to appear for the test.

TOEFL Exam Registration 

TOEFL registration is open all year round for various test locations. The link for TOEFL test registration 2024 is https://www.ets.org/toefl. Students can register for the test through four modes: ETS login account, TOEFLGo Mobile App, through a call, or by mail. The TOEFL application form is available up to 7 days before the actual test date. However, students are advised to complete their TOEFL slot booking at least 2-3 months before to get a preferred test date and centre.

TOEFL test dates are available throughout the year across various test centres. The online TOEFL registration link: https://www.ets.org/toefl is open 7 days before the exam. However, students are advised to book their test slots at least 2-3 months before the original test date to get a preferred test location. 

Note: Students are advised to check for the admission deadline of various universities before booking a TOEFL test date. For the January 2025 admission deadline, students should appear at least one month before to ensure they have enough time to retake the test in case of low scores.

The TOEFL exam is scored on a 0-120 scale where each TOEFL section is scored on a 0-30 scale. The total TOEFL score is calculated by summing up the scores from all four sections. The official TOEFL test scores are released 6-10 days from the day of the test. Students can view and download their TOEFL results by logging into their official TOEFL account using their user ID and password. Students can also request a paper copy of their TOEFL test scores on the official ETS website.
