Candidates can now check the official category-wise qualifying cutoff, as well as refer to previous year trends to understand admission chances and plan ahead. Previous years’ JEE Main cutoff trends provide valuable insight into the score and rank required for various institutes. Candidates are encouraged to review both qualifying percentiles and institute-wise admission cutoffs to make informed decisions during JoSAA counselling.

JEE Main Cutoff Qualifying vs Admission

The JEE Main cutoff is of two types: qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff.

  1. Qualifying Cutoff: The qualifying cutoff is the minimum percentile required for candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025. Only candidates who meet or exceed this cutoff will be allowed to appear in the next stage for admission to IITs.

  2. Admission Cutoff: The admission cutoff refers to the opening and closing ranks for admission to  JoSAA participating institutes like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. These ranks are released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) after each round of counselling.

What Factors Affect the JEE Main 2025 Cutoff?

The JEE Main 2025 cutoff depends on several factors that determine the minimum percentile required for admission. Here are the key factors that affect the cutoff:

  • Total Number of Applicants: The more applicants who appear for the exam, the higher the competition, which can lead to a higher cutoff. A lower number of applicants may lead to a decrease in the cutoff.

  • Difficulty Level of the Exam: If the exam is more difficult, fewer students may score high marks, leading to a lower cutoff. If it’s easier, more students may score well, raising the cutoff.

  • Normalization Process: NTA uses normalization in JEE to adjust for any differences in difficulty between various exam sessions. This ensures fair evaluation and affects the cutoff based on overall scores.

  • Number of Seats Available: The number of seats in colleges also impacts the cutoff. More seats usually lead to a lower cutoff, while fewer seats may raise the cutoff.

  • Category-wise Reservations: The reservation system affects the overall JEE Main Cutoff 2025 as the number of reserved seats influences the available seats for General category students.

  • Previous Year Cutoff Trends: Historical cutoff trends provide an idea of what to expect. If the cutoff has been increasing in recent years, it may continue to rise, and vice versa.

  • Performance of Top Applicants: The performance of top applicants plays a role in setting the cutoff. If many students score high marks, the cutoff will be higher.
