Following the declaration of the CBSE Class 12 Results 2026 on May 13, the Central Board of Secondary Education is transitioning into its post-result phase. This year marks a significant shift with the full-scale implementation of On-Screen Marking (OSM), a student-centric reform under the National Education Policy (NEP).
In a massive logistical feat, CBSE evaluated 98,66,622 answer books digitally this year. The OSM system was designed to enhance transparency and eliminate the human errors that typically plague paper-based checking.
How OSM Changes the Results for You:
Zero Calculation Errors: The system automatically handles totaling and marks posting.
Fair Evaluation: Ensures examiners adhere strictly to the standardized marking scheme.
Efficiency: Faster processing leading to timely result declarations.
Official Note: "In 2026, as CBSE has digitally evaluated answer books, there is no requirement to address totaling and posting errors. However, re-evaluation facilities will be extended as per earlier years."
If you are unsatisfied with your scores, mark these dates in your calendar. The process is entirely online via the official portal cbse.gov.in.
| Event | Start Date | Platform |
| Online Application Starts | May 18, 2026 | Official CBSE Website |

| Verification of Marks | Phase 1 | Online Portal |
While OSM eliminates "math errors" (totaling), it does not account for subjective judgment. If you believe a specific answer deserved more marks based on the marking scheme, the re-evaluation process remains your primary recourse.
The Two-Stage Process:
Stage 1 (Scanned Copy): Students must first apply to receive a scanned photocopy of their evaluated answer book.
Stage 2 (Re-evaluation): After reviewing the photocopy, students can challenge the marking of specific questions.

Q1: Can I apply for re-evaluation without applying for a photocopy?
No. Typically, CBSE requires students to go through the verification and "obtaining photocopy" stages before they can apply for the re-evaluation of specific questions.
Q2: What is the fee for CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation 2026?
The exact fee per subject/question will be mentioned in the detailed circular. Usually, it ranges from ₹500 to ₹700 for verification and ₹100 per question for re-evaluation.
Q3: Will my marks decrease after re-evaluation?
Yes, it is possible. When you apply for re-evaluation, the board's decision is final. If your marks decrease, you must accept the new (lower) score, and your old marksheet will be invalidated.
Q4: Does OSM mean I can't apply for "Verification of Marks"?
Since OSM eliminates totaling errors, the traditional "Verification" (checking if all marks were added correctly) is technically redundant. However, the Board is providing the facility to ensure student satisfaction and to maintain the standard re-checking hierarchy.
Q5: When will the Supplementary Exams 2026 be held?
Information regarding the Supplementary (Compartment) exams will be released alongside the re-evaluation circular. Generally, these are held in July.
