The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the comprehensive dress code and security guidelines for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026. With the medical entrance exam set for Sunday, May 3, 2026, over 22 lakh aspirants are required to strictly adhere to these norms to ensure a seamless entry process.
Under the regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the NTA aims to maintain the highest level of transparency and security. Here is everything you need to know about what to wear, what to carry, and how to download your hall ticket.
To expedite the frisking process and avoid technical delays, NTA has "preferred" specific attire for all candidates:
Clothing: Candidates are encouraged to wear light clothes with half sleeves. While full sleeves and woollens are permitted, such candidates must report significantly earlier for detailed security checks.
Avoid: Large buttons, elaborate embroidery, layered clothing, hoodies, or jackets.
Footwear: Slippers and low-heeled sandals are the only allowed footwear. Shoes with thick soles and high heels are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.
Jewellery & Accessories: All metallic items, including earrings, nose rings, necklaces, bracelets, and even charms, are barred.
NTA respects religious sentiments; however, security remains a priority. Candidates wearing articles of faith (such as Kirpan or Kara) or customary dress (such as Burqa or Hijab) must report to the exam centre by 12:30 PM for mandatory manual frisking.
To prevent unfair means, NTA has released a strict checklist for the 2026 cycle:
| Allowed Items | Prohibited Items (Strictly Barred) |
| NEET UG 2026 Admit Card (Printed) | Mobile phones, Bluetooth, Earphones |
| Valid ID Proof (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter ID) | Wallets, Belts, Caps, Handbags, Goggles |
| Passport size photo (same as application) | Geometry boxes, Pens, Scales, Writing pads |
| Transparent Water Bottle | Digital/Analog Watches & Health bands |
| Personal small Hand Sanitizer | Food items (except for Diabetic patients) |
Note: Pens will be provided by the NTA inside the examination hall. Do not carry your own stationery.
In a student-friendly move, NTA has clarified the biometric verification process. If a candidate’s fingerprint or facial recognition fails due to technical errors or physical conditions (like dry skin), they will not be barred. Instead, they can provide a written undertaking and proceed with the examination.

Q1: Is a nose ring allowed in the NEET exam?
No. NTA prohibits all metallic ornaments, including nose rings, earrings, and bracelets. It is advised to remove them before reaching the centre to avoid delays.
Q2: Can I wear jeans to the NEET 2026 exam?
While jeans are not explicitly banned, they often have large buttons and multiple pockets which can trigger metal detectors. Simple trousers or leggings are highly recommended.
Q3: What time do the gates close for NEET UG 2026?
The gates close strictly at 1:30 PM. No candidate will be allowed entry under any circumstances after this time. The exam starts at 2:00 PM.
Q4: Can I carry a digital watch for time management?
No. All types of watches (analog, digital, or smart) are strictly prohibited. Every exam hall is equipped with a wall clock for candidates.
Q5: Are full-sleeve shirts allowed if I have a skin condition?
Yes, but you must report early. If the clothing is due to a medical condition, ensure you carry a medical certificate and inform the NTA/Centre Superintendent in advance.
