Nine days. That is all that separates approximately 24 lakh medical aspirants from the most consequential three hours of their lives. NEET UG 2026 is scheduled for May 3, 2026, from 2 PM to 5 PM, and the National Testing Agency has issued a sharp, non-negotiable official advisory that every candidate must read before stepping out of home on exam day.
The NTA has published a detailed list of prohibited items that are banned inside examination centres. Candidates found carrying any of these items will be immediately booked under Unfair Means (UFM) provisions — a charge that can lead to disqualification, cancellation of results, and in serious cases, legal action under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. This is not a warning. It is a formal directive from the exam authority, communicated through NTA's official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
With admit cards expected to drop between April 27 and 29, 2026, at neet.nta.nic.in, the window to prepare for exam day is closing fast. Read every word of this advisory carefully — it could be the difference between writing the exam and being turned away at the gate.

The NTA made its position unambiguous: any candidate found with a banned item at the examination centre will be treated as having adopted unfair means. No exceptions. No explanations accepted at the gate. The advisory specifically called out communication devices, electronic gadgets, and personal items as high-risk categories that students routinely and sometimes unknowingly carry — and it warned that compulsory frisking at every centre will catch what candidates think they can sneak in.
The agency also reminded candidates that instructions printed on the admit card are legally binding — not advisory. Failing to follow any instruction mentioned on the hall ticket is itself grounds for disciplinary action.
Students and parents must go through this list item by item before packing for May 3.
In the category of stationery and study material, the following are strictly banned: any textual material whether printed or written, loose bits of paper, geometry box, pencil box, plastic pouch, calculator, pen, scale, writing pad, electronic pen, log table, eraser, pen drives, scanner, and any similar items. Note that pens will be provided inside the examination hall by NTA — there is no need to carry your own.
In the category of communication and electronic devices, these are fully prohibited: mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, pagers, health bands, smartwatches, and any electronic gadget of any kind. Even switched-off devices are not permitted. Leaving them in your bag does not help — bags are not allowed inside.
In the category of personal accessories, the following must be left at home: wallets, goggles, handbags, belts, caps, and any form of headwear.
In the category of timekeeping items, wristwatches, smartwatches, bracelets, and cameras are all banned without exception.
In the category of jewellery and metallic items, candidates must avoid wearing ornaments or any metallic accessories to the centre. Heavy jewellery, rings, earrings, nose pins, necklaces, and bracelets all fall under this prohibition. This is not just about security — metallic items significantly slow down the frisking process and may result in candidates being asked to remove them at the gate, causing delays.
In the category of food and drink, no food items — whether opened or sealed, packed or homemade — are permitted inside. Water bottles are also prohibited. An important exception: candidates with medical conditions such as diabetes who require water or food may seek prior approval from NTA before the admit card issuance. This must be done in advance through official channels.
Every candidate appearing for NEET UG 2026 will undergo compulsory, thorough frisking before being permitted to enter the examination venue. This is not a random check — it is systematic, applies to every individual, and is being enforced with significantly higher rigour following the examination integrity controversies of 2024. Candidates who resist frisking or are found carrying prohibited items during the check will not be allowed entry and may face UFM action.
Given that frisking takes time, candidates are strongly advised to arrive at the centre well before the reporting time printed on their admit card. Do not assume you can explain a prohibited item at the gate — the frisking staff will not have the authority to make exceptions.
The NTA has specifically advised candidates against wearing heavy clothing and heavy jewellery to the examination centre. While there is no formal uniform requirement, practical guidance is as follows. Avoid full-sleeved heavy garments with large buttons or embroidery. Avoid footwear with thick soles. Avoid carrying any accessory with metallic components. Minimal, light clothing is strongly recommended. This advisory is issued in the interest of making frisking faster and smoother for candidates themselves — it is not a punitive dress code but a practical instruction to avoid delays at the gate.
While the prohibited list is long, what you need to carry is simple. A printed copy of the NEET UG 2026 admit card downloaded from neet.nta.nic.in, with a passport-size photograph affixed to it, is mandatory. Entry will be refused without the admit card — no exceptions. A valid government-issued photo ID proof is also compulsory. Accepted ID documents include Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, or any other government-issued photo identity document. The name and photograph on the ID must match the details on the admit card. Candidates belonging to PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category must also carry their PwD certificate. SC/ST candidates should carry their category certificate if required at the centre.
The NEET UG 2026 admit card has not yet been released as of April 24, 2026. Based on NTA's established pattern of releasing admit cards three to seven days before the examination, the hall ticket is expected to be available for download between April 27 and April 29, 2026, at neet.nta.nic.in or exams.nta.nic.in/NEET. NTA does not dispatch admit cards by post. The only way to get it is through the official online portal using your application number and date of birth or password. PW.live will publish the direct download link the moment it goes live — bookmark this page.

If you find any discrepancy — a wrong name, mismatched photograph, or incorrect centre — contact NTA immediately at neet@nta.ac.in or call their helpline between 10 AM and 5 PM. You will still be allowed to appear for the exam with the current admit card, and NTA will correct records subsequently. Do not wait.
The examination will be held simultaneously across 552 cities in India and 14 cities abroad in a single offline shift from 2 PM to 5 PM. The scale of this operation makes strict adherence to NTA guidelines even more critical — centre staff across thousands of venues are operating under the same unified directive, leaving no room for individual exceptions at the gate.
For candidates with medical conditions that require them to carry items otherwise prohibited — such as insulin, glucose, or medical devices — NTA has specifically stated that prior approval must be obtained from the agency before the admit cards are issued. This means the window for such requests may already be narrowing. Candidates in this situation must contact NTA through official channels at the earliest.
The consequences of carrying a banned item to NEET UG 2026 are severe and immediate. The candidate will be booked under Unfair Means (UFM) provisions. This can result in cancellation of the candidate's result for the current year. In serious cases, the matter may be referred under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 — a central legislation that carries provisions for fines and imprisonment. The item will be confiscated. The candidate may be barred from future NTA examinations. There is no on-the-spot appeal process at the centre. This is not a drill.
