The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has officially changed the landscape for Higher Secondary students by announcing the WB HS Improvement Exam 2026. Following the declaration of the Class 12 results today, May 14, 2026, the Council confirmed that students now have a formal second chance to improve their academic standing.
Unlike previous years, the 2026 session introduces a structured pathway for score enhancement. However, it comes with a strict "Surrender Rule":
Mandatory Surrender: Students opting for the improvement test must surrender their original marksheet and certificate to the Council.
Binding Results: The marks obtained in the improvement exam will be considered final and binding.
Time Limit: According to the latest gazette, students must intimate their intention and surrender marks within 30 days of the result publication.
The 2026 results have set a high benchmark for the state. Here is the statistical breakdown:
| Category | Performance Data |
| Overall Pass Percentage | 91.23% |
| Total Students Appeared | 6,26,258 |
| Total Students Passed | 5,71,355 |
| Girls Pass Percentage | 92.47% (Outperformed Boys) |
| Boys Pass Percentage | 89.71% |

Commerce: Recorded a strong 93.67%.
Arts: Registered 89.19%, representing the largest cohort of students.
To combat forgery and improve authentication, WBCHSE has upgraded the Class 12 marksheets. The new documents now feature:
Student’s Photograph: Printed directly on the marksheet.
Encrypted QR Code: For instant digital verification by universities and employers.
The WBCHSE is expected to release the detailed schedule for the improvement exams shortly. Historically, such supplementary or improvement windows open within 2–3 months of the main result declaration.
Any student who has passed the WB HS 2026 exam but is unsatisfied with their marks in one or more subjects can apply. Students must ensure they have not already taken admission into higher education courses using the current marksheet.
Students can opt to improve marks in one or multiple subjects. However, the specific guidelines on the maximum number of subjects allowed for the 2026 session will be clarified in the upcoming official notification.
Students must apply through their respective schools. The process involves:
Filling out the improvement application form.
Surrendering the current marksheet/certificate.
Paying the prescribed examination fee.
Downloading the new hall ticket from the official portal.
