ACCA Qualification Structure Explained: Levels, Papers and Exemptions

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is one of the world's most recognised professional accounting qualifications. It is accepted by employers in over 180 countries and prepares students for careers in accounting, auditing, taxation, finance, consulting, and business leadership.

Understanding the ACCA qualification structure is essential before starting your ACCA journey. The qualification consists of three exam levels, 13 papers, the Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM), and the Practical Experience Requirement (PER). This guide explains each ACCA level, the complete papers list, available exemptions, and how to plan your qualification effectively.

ACCA Qualification Structure

The ACCA qualification is made up of four key components:

  • 13 ACCA exams divided across three levels

  • Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM)

  • 36 months of Practical Experience Requirement (PER)

  • Completion of performance objectives to become an ACCA member

The qualification is designed to build your knowledge gradually, allowing you to develop both technical expertise and professional skills.

ACCA Levels Explained

The ACCA qualification is divided into three progressive levels, with each stage building on the knowledge gained in the previous one.

At this stage, you'll learn:
