Coal India MT 2026 Safe Score Analysis: Coal India MT Recruitment has been officially announced for the candidates. Candidates should have completed their engineering degree to be eligible to participate in the recruitment drive for the Management Trainee posts. Around 660 posts have been allotted for the 2026 recruitment cycle. Coal India MT 2026 safe score is around 160+ marks for the general category candidates. It depends on the paper level, previous year trends and competition analysis. 

Coal India MT Competition Level

  • 2017 (1319 vacancies): Selection involved a CBT followed by an Interview.

  • 2019 (1326 vacancies): This year also included a CBT and an interview.

  • 2022 & 2024 (approx. 640 vacancies): Hiring was primarily conducted through valid GATE scores.

  • 2026: This marks the first instance where selection will be based only on CBT with no interview. The absence of negative marking, combined with no interview, significantly escalates the competition level.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

  • General Category: 40 marks in Paper 1.

  • OBC Category: 35 marks in Paper 1.

  • SC/ST Category: 30 marks in Paper 1.
    It is important to note that a significantly higher score than these minimums is essential for selection due to high competition.

Target Score for Selection

UR category candidates need to target 160+ marks, depending on the field, in the Coal India MT CBT examination. 

  • Aim for 70+ marks in Paper 1.

  • Aim for 70+ marks in Paper 2.

Exam Timeline & Important Dates

Candidates should be aware of the important dates:

  • Notification Date: May 5, 2026.

  • Form Filling Dates: May 12 to June 11, 2026.

  • Expected Exam Period: Historically, there is a 40-50 day gap between the close of form filling and the examination.

  • Admit cards are anticipated to be released between July 1-25.

  • The CBT is likely to be conducted in the last week of July or the first week of August.

Coal India MT Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Qualification: Applicants must possess a full-time four-year B.E., B.Tech, or B.Sc. in Engineering.

  • Final Year Students: Those in their final year can apply, provided their results are declared by August 31, 2026.

  • Minimum Percentage:

  • General/OBC/EWS candidates require a 60% aggregate in their engineering degree.

  • SC/ST/PwD candidates require a 55% aggregate in their engineering degree.

Coal India MT Age Limit & Relaxation

  • General/EWS: The maximum age limit is 30 years as of April 30, 2026.

  • OBC/SC/ST/Other Reserved Categories: Age relaxation will be granted in accordance with government norms.

Coal India MT Salary and Perks

Coal India MT Salary and Perks is β‚Ή60,000 per month. The pay scale for Management Trainees ranges from β‚Ή60,000 to β‚Ή1,80,000. It includes  HRA and other allowances; the first in-hand salary is estimated to be approximately β‚Ή1,12,000. Additional perks may also be provided.

Coal India MT Selection Process

The selection process for the 2026 recruitment drive will be based on a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

  • There will be no interview component.

  • No negative marking. 

  • The CBT will be offered in both Hindi and English.

Coal India MT Exam Structure

The CBT comprises two exams.

Paper 1 (General Section):

  • Subjects: General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General English.

  • Questions: 100

  • Marks: 100

Paper 2 (Professional Knowledge):

  • Subject: Discipline-specific knowledge relevant to the candidate's engineering branch (e.g., Civil Engineering for Civil candidates).

  • Questions: 100

  • Marks: 100

Total: The examination consists of 200 Questions carrying a total of 200 Marks.
