HPSC Assistant Engineer Exam Pattern 2026 for all three rounds of screening test, subject knowledge, and interview has been provided for the candidates. Candidates can check the stages and preparation for the exam accordingly.

1. Screening Test (Objective Type)

This first test helps select the best candidates to move on to the main written exam.

  • Total Questions: 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

  • Total Marks: 100 marks.

  • Exam Time: 2 hours.

  • Negative Marking: 1/4 (0.25) mark is taken away for every wrong answer.

  • The Fifth Option Rule: Every question has 5 options. The fifth option is used if a candidate wants to leave the question blank. If the answer is unknown, the fifth option must be shaded. Leaving a question blank without shading the fifth option will still result in a penalty of 1/4 mark.

  • Passing Marks: Candidates in the General category must get at least 25% marks to pass.

2. Subject Knowledge Test (Descriptive)

Candidates who pass the screening test will sit for the main written paper. It focuses entirely on specific engineering subjects.

  • Total Marks: 150 marks.

  • Exam Time: 3 hours.

  • Importance: This paper counts for 87.5% of the total score in the final selection.

3. Interview / Personality Test

Candidates who clear the Subject Knowledge Test will receive an invitation for a face-to-face interview.

  • Importance: This final round counts for 12.5% of the total score used to make the final merit list.

Candidates can check the exact syllabus, download old question papers, or see official news updates directly on the Haryana Public Service Commission website.
