“A person who wins after losing is a true champion.” This perfectly describes Deepak Mittan, whose journey in the RRB JE 2024 examination is an inspiring example of perseverance. When the CBT 2 result was first released, Deepak was not selected; he had missed the cutoff by only a few marks. Disheartened, he reached out to his teachers, believing there might have been shortcomings in his preparation or incomplete coverage of the vast syllabus. He was advised to stay positive and prepare again for the next RRB JE cycle.
However, destiny had different plans. The very next day, Deepak received an update: the RRB JE Chandigarh Zone Second List had been released, and his name appeared at Rank 2. Overwhelmed with joy, the first people he informed were his mother and father. What initially felt like a setback turned out to be a delayed victory.
Deepak has been an active learner in the PW RRB JE Express Batch. He regularly attended classes, asked doubts via Telegram, and remained consistent in his preparation. His story is a reminder to aspirants that if their selection was missed by a narrow margin, they should patiently wait—many zones release second lists depending on vacancies and non-joiners.
Deepak began his preparation in March–April 2024 after learning from PW’s videos that at least one year of focused study is ideal. Before this, he had never seriously attempted a government exam. His first GATE attempt in 2017, without preparation, earned him only 7 marks—ironically the highest score in his college. After working for 5–7 years in a private job with limited satisfaction and post-COVID salary cuts, he decided to attempt government exams seriously.
Since RRB JE allows candidates up to age 33, it became his primary goal. He quit his job, attempted GATE again (scoring 19 marks with one month of preparation), and gained confidence. He then joined PW’s Express Batch and followed a strict routine of 6–7 hours of daily study, treating it like a full-time job.
Deepak believes the CBT 2 paper is not very tough, but the syllabus is extensive. Consistency and daily study are crucial for covering all subjects.
Mock tests played the most important role in his success. He attempted multiple mocks,, weekly tests, DPPs, and nearly 50 full mock tests from another series. He analysed each one thoroughly and repeatedly solved incorrect questions, which significantly improved his accuracy and confidence.
