Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC JE 2026 notification for the recruitment of Junior Engineers in various Government of India organizations and offices. This year, the number of participating organizations has increased to 14, compared with 9 organizations in SSC JE 2025.

SSC JE 2026 recruitment includes posts such as Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Electrical), Junior Engineer (Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Telecom), and Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The 2026 notification also introduces organizations such as the Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships, Department of Telecommunication, India Meteorological Department, and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, making the recruitment broader than the previous year.

Which New Organizations Are Included in SSC JE 2026?

The four new organizations included in the 2026 notice are -

  1. Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways

  2. Department of Telecommunication (DoT)

  3. India Meteorological Department (IMD)

  4. Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying

The posts associated with these organizations are different. Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships has JE (Civil) and JE (Electrical), DoT has JE (Telecom), IMD has Scientific Assistant, and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has JE (Civil).

SSC JE 2026: Which New Posts Have Been Added Under These Departments?

SSC JE 2026 notice includes the following posts under the newly appearing organisations:

1. JE (Civil) – Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships

The notice includes JE (Civil) under the Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. Candidates require a Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Diploma in Civil Engineering with three years' experience, or an equivalent qualification. The age limit is up to 32 years.

2. JE (Electrical) – Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships

The same organization also includes JE (Electrical). The qualification specified is a Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering with three years' experience, or an equivalent qualification. The age limit is up to 32 years.

3. JE (Telecom) – Department of Telecommunication

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) includes the post of Junior Engineer (Telecom). The qualification specified is a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation from a recognised University or Institute. The age limit is up to 30 years.

4. Scientific Assistant – India Meteorological Department

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) includes the post of Scientific Assistant. The notice specifies a Bachelor's Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognised institution or university, or a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering from a recognised institution or university. The age limit is up to 30 years.

5. JE (Civil) – Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying includes JE (Civil). The qualification is a Degree or three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised University or Institute. The age limit is up to 30 years.

Is JE Telecom Included in SSC JE 2026?

Yes, JE (Telecom) is included in SSC JE 2026. The Department of Telecommunication has been included in the 2026 notice with the post of Junior Engineer (Telecom).

  • Candidates opting for JE (Telecom) are also eligible for Scientific Assistant in IMD and JE (Electrical), subject to fulfilling the required educational qualification.

  • Candidates opting for JE (Electrical) can also opt for JE (Telecom), subject to the prescribed educational qualification.

  • Candidates opting for Scientific Assistant in IMD can also opt for JE (Telecom), subject to fulfilling the prescribed educational qualification.

 Is Scientific Assistant in IMD Included in SSC JE 2026?

Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department is included in SSC JE 2026.

The notice states that the examination will also be conducted for recruitment to Scientific Assistant in India Meteorological Department (IMD). The post is included separately in the list of organizations and posts under the examination.

What Does the SSC JE 2026 Expansion Mean for Candidates?

The addition of these organisations expands the range of posts covered under the SSC JE 2026 examination.
