"Agar aap sab kuch aise mug up karke chale jaoge to aap options mein maybe confuse ho sakte ho."

Even though he had joined his Master's programme only a few months before the examination, he focused on understanding every topic in depth instead of rushing through the syllabus.

"Main jo bhi padha tha wo cheez depth mein padhi thi. To uska ye fayda mila ki main question dekhte hi mujhe answer turant pata chal jata tha. Kabhi main options mein confuse nahi hua."

According to Aman, concept-based learning also creates long-term retention. Once a topic is understood properly, students can recall it more easily during examinations and avoid making mistakes between similar options.

He also shared that the overall difficulty level of the paper was manageable.

"Overall agar level ki baat karein to exam moderate level hi main kahunga... moderate to easy."

However, he mentioned that a few questions from molecular topics and some tricky questions required careful thinking. Students with strong conceptual understanding were better placed to solve them confidently.

Aman Adapted to the Changing Exam Pattern

While reflecting on the exam, Aman pointed out that UPCATET 2026 introduced a few noticeable changes. Students who depended only on previous year question papers could have found some questions unexpected.

One change that stood out to him was the inclusion of assertion-reason and statement-based questions.

"Is baar UPCATET ke paper mein maine pehli baar assertion-reason aur statement ke questions bhi dekhe the."

According to Aman, these questions were not limited to one section. He also noticed them in molecular topics, where a few questions required a deeper understanding of the subject.

"Agar aap prepare kar rahe ho CATET ke liye to aap agar concept clear rakhoge to aap assertion reason, statement se question dekh ke panic nahi karoge."

He believes that students who understand concepts instead of memorising facts can handle such questions more confidently, even if the pattern changes.

Revision and Question Practice Helped Aman Stay Prepared

Along with concept-building, Aman believes that revision is equally important. Since he was busy with his college examinations before UPCATET, he did not get enough time for extensive question practice. Still, he kept revising topics regularly through lectures and self-study.

He explained that classroom discussions often encouraged him to revisit topics he had forgotten.

"Aap topic kuch bhi padha rahe hote the, but aap peeche ke bhi facts laake last mein bata dete ho. Phir hum wapas jaake wo topic dekhte the."

This habit helped him strengthen older topics while learning new ones. Instead of treating revision as a separate activity, he made it a regular part of his preparation.

He also believes that discussing concepts with friends improves memory and helps students recall facts more easily during the examination.

"Aap agar kisi bhi cheez ko ek baar do baar revision karte raho aur doston ke saath group discussion karte raho, to wo cheez bahut help karti hai."

According to Aman, revision, discussion, and continuous recall together make preparation much stronger.

Aman's Advice for Future UPCATET Aspirants

Towards the end of the interview, Aman shared a few practical suggestions for students preparing for PhD entrance examinations.

He advised students not to ignore their college studies while preparing for competitive exams.

"College ki studies ko kabhi bhi for granted mat lo... college ke classes bhi regular karo, jo bhi secondary sources se padh rahe ho usko bhi padho, aur self study bhi karo."

He explained that these three components college learning, guided preparation, and self-study work together to build a strong understanding of the subject.

Aman also emphasised the importance of regular revision instead of studying a topic only once.

"Multiple times revision aur hamesha apne mind ko revision mode mein on rakho."

He encouraged students to discuss topics with friends, revise diagrams, remember scientists' contributions, and keep recalling concepts during daily study. According to him, these small habits make learning more effective in the long run.
