The eligibility criteria require candidates to meet conditions regarding nationality, age, educational qualification, and proficiency in the local language of the state they apply for.
An applicant must be a Citizen of India. Other eligible applicants include a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan Refugee (who came before Jan 1, 1962), or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specific countries (with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India).

The selection process for the post of Local Bank Officer (LBO) is conducted in four phases:
Candidates will appear for an Online Written Test.
The test has a total of 150 questions for 150 marks.
There is a negative marking of one-fourth (1/4th) of the marks assigned to each question for every incorrect answer.
Candidates must score a minimum qualifying mark of 40% for General/EWS category and 35% for Reserved categories in each section.

The online application and documents of the written test qualified candidates will be scrutinized to check for eligibility before the subsequent phases.
Candidates who have not studied the local language of the applied state in the 10th or 12th standard must appear for the LLPT.
The LLPT is qualifying in nature and assesses reading, writing, and speaking proficiency. Failure to qualify makes the candidate ineligible for final selection.
All candidates shortlisted after qualifying the Online Written Test will be called for the Personal Interview.
The final selection is based on the combined performance of the candidates in the Online Written Test and Personal Interview, subject to qualifying in the LLPT (where applicable) and fulfilling all eligibility criteria.
The selected candidates will be designated as a Local Bank Officer (LBO) in the JMGS-I Grade/Scale
Pay Scale: The scale of pay is ₹48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920.
