Microscope

Micro Organism of Class 8

Micro-organisms or microbes, as the name suggests are very minute organisms found in large numbers everywhere i.e., water, air and soil. These organisms can be seen only when they are magnified either using magnifying glass (eg; fungus) or microscope.

Collect some moist soil in a beaker and add water to it. Observe a drop of water from the beaker under a microscope, you will find tiny organisms moving around. You get similar results with a drop of water from pond.

Scrape your tooth with a toothpick and observe the scraping under a microscope. Can you see tiny rod-like organisms in it?
Thus, the microbes are present even inside your body.

About three hundred years ago, a Dutch storekeeper, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek discovered the world of microbes. The science of study about microbes is called microbiology.
