It is a polymerized product of vinyl cyanide (acrylonitrile).
Vinyl cyanide can be prepared by treating acetylene with HCN in the presence of Ba(CN)2

Vinyl cyanide
It is a hard, horny and high melting substance. It is also known as acrilon or orlon.
Uses:
(i) for making blankets, sweaters, bathing suits, etc.
(ii) for making synthetic carpets.
