Class 12 is an important stage for commerce students. The board exam decides future academic choices and career direction. Many students study regularly but still feel confused about what to focus on. This usually happens because they do not fully understand the syllabus and exam pattern.

The Class 12 Commerce New Syllabus 2026–27 gives a clear direction. It explains what to study, how marks are divided, and what type of questions are asked. When students follow the syllabus properly, their preparation becomes more focused and effective.

Class 12 Commerce Exam Pattern 2026–27 

The Class 12 board exam follows a structured pattern. Understanding this pattern helps students prepare in a focused way.

Business Studies Syllabus 2026–27

Business Studies is divided into two books. The theory paper is of 80 marks. Project work carries 20 marks. There are 12 chapters in total.

Book 1: Management

Book 1 carries 50 marks. It includes 8 chapters related to management.

Main topics include:

  • Nature and Significance of Management

  • Principles of Management

  • Business Environment

  • Planning

  • Organising

  • Staffing

  • Directing

  • Controlling

The first three chapters carry around 16 marks. Planning and Organising carries around 14 marks. The remaining three chapters carry around 20 marks.

Book 2: Finance and Marketing

Book 2 carries 30 marks. It includes 4 chapters. Main topics include:

  • Financial Management

  • Financial Markets

  • Marketing Management

  • Consumer Protection

Financial Management and Financial Markets carry around 15 marks. Marketing Management and Consumer Protection carries around 15 marks.

For Business Studies, the NCERT should be studied first. Students can also use books by Subhash Dey, Poonam Gandhi, or Sandeep Garg for extra practice.

Economics Syllabus 2026–27

Economics is divided into two parts. Each part carries 40 marks.

Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics carries 40 marks. It includes theory, numericals, and diagrams.

The units include:

  • National Income: 10 marks

  • Money and Banking: 6 marks

  • Determination of Income and Employment: 12 marks

  • Government Budget: 6 marks

  • Balance of Payments and Foreign Exchange: 6 marks

Determination of Income and Employment carries the highest weightage in this section. Students should practice their diagrams and numerical questions properly.

Indian Economic Development

Indian Economic Development also carries 40 marks. It is mainly theory-based.

The units include:

  • Development Experience of India: 12 marks

  • Current Challenges Facing the Indian Economy: 20 marks

  • Development Experience of India in Comparison with Neighbours: 8 marks

This section includes topics related to India’s economic history, current challenges, and comparison with China and Pakistan.

For Economics, the NCERT may not be enough for exam preparation. Students can use books by Sandeep Garg, T.R. Jain, V.K. Ohri, Radha Bahuguna, I.C. Dhingra, or C.B. Sachdeva.

Accountancy Syllabus 2026–27

Accountancy is divided into four units. The paper carries 80 marks.

Portion 1: Partnership Firm Accounts and Company Accounts

This portion carries 60 marks. Partnership Firm Accounts carry 36 marks. It includes:

  • Basic partnership accounting

  • Profit sharing

  • Admission of a partner

  • Retirement of a partner

  • Death of a partner

  • Dissolution of a firm

Company Accounts carries 24 marks. It includes:

  • Issue of shares

  • Forfeiture of shares

  • Shares and debentures

  • Accounting entries related to companies

Portion 2: Financial Statement Analysis and Cash Flow Statement

This portion carries 20 marks.

Financial Statement Analysis carries 12 marks. It includes an analysis of balance sheets and other financial data.

Cash Flow Statement carries 8 marks. It focuses on inflow and outflow of cash.

For Accountancy, students usually follow three books. One book covers Partnership Accounts. The second covers Company Accounts. The third covers Financial Statement Analysis and Cash Flow Statement.

NCERT is not usually sufficient for Accountancy. Students can use T.S. Grewal or D.K. Goel for detailed practice.

Mathematics Syllabus 2026–27

Class 12 Mathematics includes six units. It builds on many Class 11 concepts and also introduces new topics.

Main chapters include:

  • Relations and Functions

  • Inverse Trigonometric Functions

  • Matrices

  • Determinants

  • Continuity and Differentiability

  • Application of Derivatives

  • Integrals

  • Differential Equations

  • Vector Algebra

  • Three-Dimensional Geometry

  • Linear Programming

  • Probability

Matrices and Determinants are new topics. Continuity and Differentiability need a basic understanding of limits and derivatives from Class 11. Integrals and Differential Equations require regular practice.

For Mathematics, NCERT is mandatory. Students should complete the NCERT first. After that, they can use R.D. Sharma if they want advanced practice. R.S. Aggarwal can also be used for additional questions.

English Syllabus 2026–27

Class 12 English includes literature and writing skills. The literature section includes two NCERT books:

  • Flamingo

  • Vistas

These books include prose and poems. Questions may be short-answer or long-answer type.

The writing section includes:

  • Unseen passages

  • Notice writing

  • Article writing

  • Report writing

  • Application writing

  • Commentary writing

  • Advertisement writing

  • Note-making

English preparation should include reading, writing practice, and format revision. Teacher-provided notes are useful for answer writing and literature questions.
