Title: Rafting Guide Drowns After Saving Six Lives.
By-line: By Divya Sareen, Staff Reporter.
Place and Date: Dehradun, April 17.
A tragic incident occurred when a rafting guide drowned after heroically saving six tourists in the Ganga River near Rishikesh. Ramkumar Pathak, a 40-year-old guide with two decades of experience, lost his life while saving six Delhi tourists.
The mishap transpired at 1:30 PM on Friday when the raft carrying the tourists overturned downstream. Despite his expertise, Pathak's heroism came at a cost; he successfully saved all tourists but could not survive himself due to water entering his lungs.
He was immediately rushed to a government hospital in Rishikesh but was unfortunately declared dead on arrival. The government has since ordered an inquiry into the incident and announced a bravery award for him, alongside ₹5 lakh compensation for his grieving family.
