The ICSI SEFT Scheme is an important financial support initiative introduced by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India to make the Company Secretary course more affordable. Under this scheme, eligible candidates can receive a full refund of registration fees for stages such as CSEET, Executive, and the Pre-Exam Test after meeting the prescribed conditions.
The scheme supports economically weaker and academically strong candidates by reducing the financial burden of professional education. To receive the refund, applicants must satisfy the required academic or income criteria, clear the relevant examination in the first attempt, and submit the refund application within the specified period.
This lecture details the ICSI SEFT Scheme, offering a complete refund of registration fees for CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET), Executive Program, and Pre-Exam Test.
This is not a fee waiver at the time of payment, but a refund provided by ICSI after specific conditions are met.
The scheme is named ICSI SEFT Scheme, where SEFT stands for Students Education Fund Trust.
The primary objective of this scheme, initiated by ICSI itself, is to make the Company Secretary (CS) course more affordable, encourage greater student participation, and alleviate financial burdens for deserving students.
ICSI has established two distinct criteria for eligibility:
Economically Backward Students
Academically Bright Students
The refund is subject to strict conditions to ensure the pedagogical intent of supporting dedicated students:
Clearance Requirement: The fee refund will only be processed after the student has successfully cleared the respective stage (e.g., CSEET, Executive) for which the refund is claimed.
First Attempt / First Opportunity Rule:
The student must clear the examination in their first attempt or first available opportunity.
Refunds will not be granted for second attempts, third attempts, or if an attempt was skipped.
For example, if a student clears CSEET, they must apply within six months. If they register for Executive and are eligible for both groups in December 2026, they must clear both groups in that first attempt to qualify. If only one group is eligible (e.g., due to timing of CSEET clearance), that single group must be cleared in the first available attempt.
The final decision regarding the refund rests entirely on the discretion of ICSI. The application must be correctly and completely filled; typically, most students with accurate applications receive the refund.
Applications for the refund must be submitted within specific timeframes:
Within 6 months of clearing CSEET, OR
Within 6 months of registering for the Executive Program, OR
Within 6 months of registering for the Professional Program (after clearing Executive).
The following documents are typically required:
Attested photocopy of Class 12th Marksheet, OR
Attested photocopy of Graduation Marksheet (especially for direct entry students).
Income Certificate: If applying under the Economically Backward Students category, an income certificate issued by a competent Government Authority is mandatory.
