Candidates aspiring to appear in the CSIR NET 2025 to qualify for the role of Assistant Professor or to secure a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) must now refer to the updated eligibility details as mentioned in the official notification. While the eligibility norms are generally consistent with previous years, aspirants should verify the current requirements to ensure compliance. CSIR NET Educational Qualification 2025

To be eligible for the CSIR NET 2025 exam, candidates must possess a Master's degree or an equivalent postgraduate diploma in the relevant field from a recognized university or institution. The CSIR NET Educational Qualification 2025 may vary for different disciplines, and candidates are advised to check the official CSIR NET 2025 Notification for the latest updates.
  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates must secure at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification from recognized universities/institutions. Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender categories require 50% marks (without rounding off) to be eligible for the test.
  • Candidates pursuing a Master’s degree or whose final-year results are awaited can apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category. However, they must, Complete their Master’s degree within two years of the NET result with the required marks, For those qualifying for Ph.D. admission only, the time limit is one year to meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates with a Ph.D. degree whose Master’s degree was completed before September 19, 1991, receive a 5% marks relaxation (from 55% to 50%) for appearing in the NET.
  • Candidates with a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree who have secured at least 75% marks or its equivalent grade are eligible for the award of JRF and admission to a Ph.D. program. A 5% relaxation is granted to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD candidates. Candidates currently in their last semester/year of a Four-Year Bachelor’s program can apply provisionally. They must fulfill the eligibility requirements for JRF/Ph.D. admission within the stipulated timeframe after the NET result.
  • Candidates with a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree may select any CSIR NET subject (irrespective of their bachelor's discipline) for pursuing a Ph.D.
  • Candidates with foreign degrees/diplomas must ensure their qualifications are equivalent to an Indian Master’s degree as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
  • Candidates do not need to send certificates/documents or application printouts to the NTA. However, if found ineligible at any stage, their candidature will be canceled, and legal action may be initiated.

Candidates aspiring to become Assistant Professors or obtain a fellowship must be aware of the eligibility criteria for the CSIR NET exam. Only eligible candidates can apply for the CSIR NET, as they will not be considered for any of the posts if they do not meet the criteria. Mathematical Science
  • M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics/Statistics or related subject with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the main subjects, with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates)

CSIR NET Eligibility 2025 Relaxation for Third Gender Category

Candidates in the Third gender category enjoy similar relaxations in fee, age, and eligibility criteria for NET (i.e., JRF and Assistant Professor) as those given to SC/ST categories. The subject-wise qualifying cut-offs for this category would be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PwD/OBC–NCL/General-EWS categories in the particular subject.
