Securing a strong rank in CSIR NET while balancing academics and research work requires careful use of limited preparation time. Arpan Tapaderโs CSIR NET journey reflects this balance. While pursuing his BS at the Indian Institute of Science and completing a summer internship, he started preparing for the exam alongside his lab schedule.
Arpan had already secured AIR 23 in an earlier CSIR NET attempt. However, he appeared again in June 2026 after becoming eligible for the Assistant Professor position. This time, he secured AIR 25 in Life Sciences and qualified for JRF. Alongside this, he also secured AIR 1 in GATE XL 2026.
Arpan already had a strong rank in his previous CSIR NET attempt, but his eligibility had changed. This gave him a specific reason to appear for the examination once again.
โHaan sir, matlab last time is baar se zyaada accha rank tha, last time 23 rank accha rank tha.โ
โTo mere mind mein tha ki last time main BS student as a BS student appear kiya tha CSIR NET ke liye to Assistant Professor uspe eligible nahi tha, to is saal Assistant Professor ke liye bhi eligible ho gaya isliye aur ek baar diya.โ
His second attempt was therefore connected to becoming eligible for the Assistant Professor position. With this objective, he appeared for CSIR NET June 2026 and secured AIR 25 along with JRF qualification.
At the time of his preparation, Arpan was a BS student at the Indian Institute of Science and was also doing a summer internship. His preparation had to fit around his regular lab schedule.
โSir main June 20 โ July 2026 ka CSIR jab diya tha, main June se padhai shuru kiya tha, mera tab summer internship chal raha tha, main BS student tha Indian Institute of Science mein, to tab aisa hota tha ki din ko lab jaata tha aur shaam ko jaldi aa jaata tha, matlab 6:00 se 7:00 baje ke beech mein lab se wapas aake padhai karta tha CSIR ke liye.โ
Initially, Arpan studied after returning from the lab. As the examination approached and he wanted to complete the syllabus, he increased his lecture intake.
โBut jaise-jaise exam paas aate laga to atleast 10 din pehle mujhe syllabus complete karna tha to tab maine din mein chaar videos dekhna shuru kar diya tha.โ
His preparation routine therefore changed with the approaching examination, allowing him to devote more time to completing the syllabus during the final phase.
PW resources were part of Arpanโs preparation, particularly through lectures, lecture notes and mock tests. For self-study, he relied on the notes provided with the lectures.
Alongside this, Arpan followed a weekly testing routine. He would take a test on the weekend and revise difficult topics beforehand.
โJaise test main weekend ko deta tha, ek-ek weekend ko ek-ek test deta tha aur weekend ke pehle thoda jo topic mujhe difficult lagta hai jaise jisme ratna zyaada padta hai wo uska revision kar deta hoon.โ
This gave his preparation a recurring cycle of learning, revision and testing. The mock tests also became a point of comparison for him because he noticed a difference in their level from his previous experience.
โPhysics Wallah ka mock test ka level itna difference kyun ho gaya. Last time bhi diya tha usme 100 number aane se bahut khush ho jaata, is baar 150 mock test mein aaj aa raha hai.โ
The actual examination later helped him understand the change he had noticed during mock-test practice.
Thus, PWโs role in Arpanโs preparation can be traced to the lectures and lecture notes he used for studying, along with the mock tests he incorporated into his preparation routine.
While discussing preparation for the December 2026 attempt, Arpan reflected on a mistake he had made earlier: postponing tests until the syllabus was complete.
โSir December 2026 ke liye taiyaari koi special message yahi rahega ki kabhi-kabhi main bhi pehle galti karta tha ki abhi tak pura padha nahi hoon, syllabus complete nahi hua hai to test nahi doonga.โ
He explained that he would now take a test even when only part of the syllabus had been covered. For him, the purpose was not just to measure marks but also to identify what needed attention.
โWo galti main phir se nahi karunga ki agar syllabus complete nahi bhi hua hai phir bhi jitna padha hoon usse test de doonga, phir test se mujhe samajh mein aa jaayega ki the most important things which needs to be learn, to phir waise karke padhai karunga matlab test agar chhod hi diya de dena to phir ekdum discontinuity ho jaayega phir test dene mein dar lagega.โ
His experience shows how regular testing can remain part of preparation even when the syllabus is still being completed.
When asked what he would need to do to move towards a rank under 10, Arpan identified dedicated preparation, revision and question practice as the key areas.
โMain mujhe agar under 10 rank laana hai to mujhe two months ke liye dedicated padhai karni padegi, aur revise achhe se karna padega, aur zyaada aur zyaada sawaal karne padengeโ
He further narrowed this down to two important aspects of preparation.
โYes, main main cheez hai revision, aapka aapke revision kitne aapne revision kiye hain, kitne aapne question practice kiye hain, bas do cheezein kaafi zyaada important rahenge.โ
For Arpan, preparation did not end with completing lectures. Revision and solving questions were important parts of consolidating what he had studied.
Arpanโs preparation also extended to GATE XL 2026, where he secured AIR 1. Interestingly, he did not prepare separately for GATE in the same way.
โNahi sir, maine GATE โ main GATE diya tha but taiyaari sirf CSIR NET ki hi ki thi maine, bas usi se GATE de diya.โ
He clarified that his dedicated preparation had actually been for CSIR NET.
โVery honestly speaking, maine GATE ke liye ekdum taiyaari nahi ki thi. Maine 2025 CSIR NET ke liye maine do mahina diya tha apna, but GATE ke liye maine honestly speaking sirf mock test hi diya tha.โ
His performance across both examinations reflects how the preparation he undertook for CSIR NET also supported his GATE XL attempt.
Arpanโs preparation was shaped around the time available to him. While managing lab work, he used evenings for study, increased his lecture hours closer to the examination, revised difficult topics before weekly tests and used lecture notes for self-study.
His experience also highlights the importance of not waiting for perfect preparation before starting tests. Taking tests with the portion already studied can help identify areas that require further attention and prevent a long gap in practice.
For aspirants preparing for CSIR NET, Arpanโs journey offers a practical reminder to keep revision and question practice at the centre of preparation. His AIR 25 in CSIR NET June 2026, JRF qualification and AIR 1 in GATE XL 2026 reflect the outcome of a preparation routine built around consistent study, testing and revision.
Arpan Tapaderโs journey to AIR 25 in CSIR NET June 2026 Life Sciences was shaped by a preparation routine that had to fit around his academic and lab commitments. From studying after returning from the lab to increasing his lecture hours before the exam, he adapted his routine as the examination approached. His emphasis on weekly tests, revision and question practice with the help of PW also offers a practical approach for aspirants preparing for upcoming CSIR NET attempts.
