Preparing for CSIR NET requires more than completing the syllabus. Students also need regular practice, revision, mock tests, and the ability to apply concepts during the exam. Ronak Dadarwal's preparation journey highlights these aspects through his experience of preparing for CSIR NET Physical Sciences.
Ronak completed his Master's from the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, Delhi University, in 2026. In the CSIR NET June 2026 result, he scored 99.625, which resulted in a 99.64 percentile.
Ronak's CSIR NET preparation came around the time he completed his Master's. During the interview, he also shared that he had been selected for FTP 11 at Physics Wallah in Noida Sector 62. Since his joining was scheduled for July, he had a relatively free period while appearing for the examination.
By the time he appeared for the exam, Ronak said that most of his preparation was already complete and that he went to the examination with a free mind.
โPreparation achhi ho gayi thi. Main free mind se bhi gaya tha, obviously.โ
This phase allowed Ronak to enter the examination without the pressure of managing regular work alongside preparation.
โToh main half day wahan par gaya tha. Phir paper dene bhi gaya.โ
His experience also helped him identify an important challenge that can affect performance even after substantial preparation: handling pressure during the examination.
Ronak shared that strong preparation alone may not be enough if exam pressure affects performance. He recalled his previous attempt, when he had almost completed his preparation but still made several mistakes.
โMera bhi pichhla jo attempt tha maine bhi wahi kiya tha matlab almost preparation ho gayi thi but minus plus karke mere chaar ya paanch questions galat ho gaye the.โ
He further explained how pressure can lead to avoidable mistakes and affect question selection during the exam.
โBasically achhi preparation hone ke bawajood bhi exam mein pressure handle nahi hota aur usi pressure ke chalte exam mein kuch stupid mistakes hoti hain. Kuch silly mistakes hoti hain. Kuch questions carefully select nahi ho paate.โ
For Ronak, consistent preparation and regular practice were also important for building concepts and improving performance over time.
โObviously continuity toh matter karta hi hai ki haan hum continuously concept ko build karte rehte hain, ek subject padhte hain phir doosra subject padhte hain but obviously practice bhi matter karti hai.โ
This reflects his focus on maintaining continuity in preparation while regularly practising concepts instead of relying only on completing the syllabus.
Mock tests were another important part of Ronak's preparation. He used them not only to check his knowledge but also to improve his time management and understand his performance.
He recalled that his initial mock test scores were low, but his performance improved as he continued taking more tests.
โMera bhi starting mein mock test mein kaafi kam score hua tha. Baad mein dheere-dheere, matlab jaise jaise mock test maine increase kiya ki ek doosra mock test diya, teesra mock test diya.โ
Ronak also explained why students should not treat a low mock score as the final measure of their preparation.
โJo bhi aapne seekha hai wo mock test are for your analysis only ki aap analyze kar paayen. Unse seekh paaye ki apne kya galtiyan ki hainโ
This approach helped him use mock tests to identify mistakes, find weaker areas, and decide which topics required stronger revision.
After completing the syllabus, Ronak focused on revision through videos and concise notes. He explained that making a short copy with concepts and formulas helped him revise the syllabus more efficiently.
His preparation also included the YouTube batch, which he used before moving towards revision.
โMaine YouTube ka jo batch tha uske pehle matlab videos dekha matlab obviously syllabus complete kar lena hai phir uske baad mein videos dekhna hai.โ
For faster revision, he suggested keeping concepts and formulas together instead of trying to revise the entire syllabus repeatedly.
โEk particular chapter ke aur matlab concept bhi uske saath mein likh dein ki thoda ek box bana diya usmein concept likh diya uske side mein formula likh diya.โ
This method gave Ronak a compact way to revisit important concepts and formulas during the later stage of preparation. His mention of the YouTube batch also shows how structured video learning formed part of his preparation process.
As the examination approached, Ronak focused on analysing previous-year questions instead of trying to give equal attention to every part of the wide syllabus. He believed that PYQs could help students understand which topics and units were more frequently represented.
He explained the importance of identifying the pattern through previous-year papers.
โHumein ek toh paper ka analysis hona chahiye ki PYQ dekh ke hum ye pata laga paaye ki haan paper mein kya-kya aa raha hai.โ
He further connected this analysis with building a preparation strategy.
โAur phir uske according hum apni strategy banayein ki haan kaun sa jo topic hai ya kaun sa jo unit hai usse zyada questions aa rahe hain.โ
This approach helped him focus on the exam pattern and prioritise topics rather than simply trying to complete an extensive syllabus without analysing question trends.
Ronak also highlighted the importance of applying concepts and selecting questions carefully during the examination. According to him, knowing concepts is not enough if students cannot apply them to questions.
He explained the role of question selection in the exam.
โQuestion selection bhi bahut important role play karta hai ki humein kuch question tough aate hain uske andar but unko chhod ke baaki jo easy question hai unko target karke obviously hum CSIR NET ko nikal sakte hain.โ
He also advised students not to get stuck on difficult questions at the beginning of the paper.
โAisa nahi hai ki shuru mein teen-chaar question tough aaye. Main unhi mein phansa hua hoon ki mujhse kaise solve nahi ho rahe.โ
For Ronak, going through the paper and identifying the questions that can be attempted confidently is an important part of exam strategy.
After completing his Master's and appearing for CSIR NET, Ronak shared that he was looking towards becoming an Assistant Professor. He said that research could be explored later, but his current focus was on pursuing an Assistant Professor role.
His preparation journey therefore moved from completing his Master's to appearing for CSIR NET with a focus on concepts, practice, revision, mock tests, and question analysis.
For aspirants preparing for CSIR NET Physical Sciences, Ronak's experience highlights the importance of building concepts continuously, practising regularly, analysing mock tests, revising through concise notes, studying previous-year questions, and selecting questions carefully during the examination.
