BHU UG Counselling 2026: Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment & Admission

BHU UG Counselling 2026 is conducted for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by Banaras Hindu University based on CUET UG 2026 scores. Eligible candidates must complete online registration, fill their course and campus preferences, participate in seat allotment, verify documents, and pay the admission fee within the prescribed schedule.

Since several courses are offered across different campuses and colleges, understanding the counselling process, seat categories, campus options, hostel facilities, and preference-filling strategy can help you make better admission choices.

BHU Preference Filling Overview

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) holds a significant legacy, with many students aspiring to join its ranks. When filling out preferences for admission, several factors must be carefully considered to ensure a successful application.

BHU Campus Structure and College Options

The BHU Main Campus comprises two primary colleges:

  • FMC (Faculty of Main Campus): This college is available for both male and female candidates.

  • MMV (Mahila Mahavidyalaya): This college is exclusively for female candidates.

RGSC (Rajiv Gandhi South Campus) is another part of BHU, situated approximately 70 km away from the main campus.

When submitting your BHU preferences, the following order is highly recommended:

  1. FMC

  2. MMV (This option is available only for female candidates; male candidates will not find it in their preference list).

  3. RGSC

RGSC Advantage: Guaranteed Hostel Accommodation

RGSC offers a significant advantage: if admitted to RGSC, you are guaranteed hostel accommodation. In contrast, for FMC and MMV, hostel allocation is determined by academic merit (marks) and typically occurs only after seat confirmation, post-counselling.

Key Factors for Preference Filling

To make well-informed choices during the preference filling process, you must consider the following critical factors:

Course-Specific College and Seat Availability

It is crucial to verify which colleges offer your desired course and the exact number of available seats.

Examples of Course-College Availability:

  • BSc (Hons) in Agriculture: Primarily offered by FMC (e.g., 154 regular and paid seats). Colleges like MMV, RGSC, APMG, DAVPG, and VKVM do not offer this course.

  • BTech in Dairy Technology: Exclusively offered by FMC. It is not available in MMV, RGSC, APMG, or DAV.

  • BTech in Food Technology: Also exclusively offered by FMC.

  • BSc (Hons) in Botany: Offered by FMC and MMV, but not by other mentioned colleges.

Therefore, you must consider colleges based on the availability of your desired course and the number of seats before setting your preferences.

Location

If your desired course is available across multiple campuses, you can consider location as an important factor in deciding your preference order.

Paid vs. Regular Seats

You can also evaluate options for Paid Seats in addition to Regular Seats.

Paid Seats Details:

  • Quota: A 15% quota is reserved for paid seats in every course.

  • Additional Fees:

  • BA (Hons): INR 12,000 extra

  • BCom: INR 500 extra

  • BSc: INR 4,000 extra

  • Recommendation: Paid seats are suitable for candidates with reasonably lower marks who are determined to study at BHU. However, exercise caution if your marks are very low, as paid seats also have specific cut-offs.

Summary of Preference Filling Strategy

To effectively fill your preferences:

  1. Consult the Information Bulletin to check course availability and the seat matrix (including regular and paid options) across different colleges.

  2. Consider Location if multiple college options exist for your chosen course.

  3. Evaluate Paid vs. Regular Seats based on your scores and willingness to pay extra fees.

Hostel Information

Hostels at BHU are generally allocated based on specific courses.

Examples of Course-Specific Hostels:

  • Agriculture: Bal Gangadhar Tilak Hostel and S. Radhakrishnan Hostel (combined approximately 320 rooms).

  • Arts: Birla Hostel (Birla ABC) is known as the largest.

  • Commerce: I.N. Hostel, I.A. Gurutu Hostel (120 rooms, 250 intake).

  • Education: R.P. Hostel (51 rooms).

Hostel Fees: An example fee is INR 4875. Important: This fee covers only hostel accommodation, not mess charges, which are separate.

RGSC Hostels: Examples include Aravalli Boys Hostel, Himgiri Boys Hostel, New Boys Hostel, and Shivalik. A key advantage is that hostel allocation is highly probable if you secure admission to RGSC. Note that fees for some RGSC hostels (e.g., New Boys Hostel for certain courses) might be slightly higher. Specific hostels are also available for Social Sciences.

BHU Admission Process Steps

The complete BHU admission process involves the following sequential steps:

  1. Form Locking

  2. Allotment (of seats)

  3. Preference Filling

  4. Pay & Accept (of the allotted seat)

  5. Physical Verification (of documents)

Important Deadline: The last date for the admission process is July 25th. Do not miss this deadline, as it will lead to significant complications.

BHU UG Counselling 2026 is an important step for candidates seeking admission through CUET UG. Before filling your preferences, review the course-wise seat matrix, campus availability, hostel facilities, and official counselling guidelines carefully. Making informed choices during counselling can improve your chances of securing your preferred programme and campus.
