Ambala Air Force Station, one of India’s oldest bases, began as Camp Umbala in 1919, hosting RAF squadrons. In 1938, it became India’s first Air Force Station HQ. In the 1940s, the base mainly trained pilots for the Indian Air Force and was called the Air Force Flying School at the time of independence.

By 1951, it became operational as 307 Wing, later 7 Wing, and now hosts Rafale jets as a frontline fighter base.
