As per the latest schedule, the physical tests will be conducted from 26 December 2025 to 20 March 2026. Candidates who have completed the registration process must now focus on physical preparation, as clearing these tests is mandatory to move ahead in the recruitment process.

The PET and PST form the first stage of selection for the Constable (Tradesman) posts. Candidates are required to meet the prescribed fitness and physical standards to qualify for subsequent stages.

BSF Tradesman Selection Process

The BSF Tradesman recruitment process consists of multiple stages, including the written examination, physical tests, trade test, document verification, and medical examination. The physical test is a crucial stage, and only candidates who meet the required fitness and physical standards are allowed to proceed further.

The physical test includes two mandatory stages:

  1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  2. Physical Standard Test (PST)

BSF Tradesman Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The Physical Efficiency Test evaluates a candidate’s stamina and overall physical fitness through a running test. The race distance and time limits are as follows:

  • Male Candidates: 1.6 km race in 8 minutes 30 seconds

  • Female Candidates: 5 km race in 24 minutes

Candidates must qualify the PET to be considered for the Physical Standards Test.

BSF Tradesman Physical Standards Test (PST)

Candidates who clear the PET are assessed for physical measurements under the Physical Standards Test. The height, chest, and weight requirements vary by category and region, as prescribed by BSF norms.

  • General (except special categories):
    Height – 165 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • Scheduled Tribes (General Areas):
    Height – 160 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • ST candidates from LWE-affected districts:
    Height – 158 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • Other States & UTs:
    Height – 167.5 cm | Chest – 78–83 cm

  • ST candidates from North-Eastern States:
    Height – 155 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas, Assam, HP, J&K, Ladakh:
    Height – 162.5 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura:
    Height – 160 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

  • Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) areas:
    Height – 155 cm | Chest – 75–80 cm

Weight for all categories must be as per medical standards.

Physical Standards for Female Candidates

  • General (except special categories): Height – 155 cm

  • Scheduled Tribes (General Areas): Height – 148 cm

  • ST candidates from LWE-affected districts: Height – 147 cm

  • Other States & UTs: Height – 147 cm

  • Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura: Height – 150 cm

  • Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) areas: Height – 147 cm

The weight for female candidates must also be in accordance with medical standards.
