Hakimpet AFS History

Long ago, during World War II, Hakimpet AFS served as a stopover for the British planes. After India became free, it stayed quiet for some years. In 1951, a training unit started there to teach new pilots fighter flying.​

Over time, it expanded. In 1958, it became the Jet Training Wing. It merged with another wing in 1964 to become the Fighter Training Wing. In 1984, the base came to be accorded full Air Force Station status, and a museum was opened in 2001 to display its saga.​
