How to Check NDA 1 2026 Result - Step-by-Step Guide

When the result is declared, UPSC uploads a PDF to the Written Results section of its official website. There is no login required to view the result. Follow the steps below to check your NDA 1 2026 result the moment it is released:

  1. Open your browser and visit the official UPSC website: upsc.gov.in

  2. On the homepage, look for the "What's New" section or click on the "Examinations" tab in the top navigation bar.

  3. Click on "Written Results" from the dropdown menu.

  4. Look for the link titled "National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (I), 2026 — Written Result" and click on it.

  5. A PDF file will open in your browser or download to your device.

  6. Press Ctrl + F (or Command + F on Mac) to open the search box.

  7. Type your roll number and press Enter.

  8. If your roll number is highlighted, you have qualified the written exam and will be called for SSB interview.

  9. Download and save the PDF for future reference. You will need it for SSB registration.

If the UPSC website is slow or not loading: During result declarations, upsc.gov.in often experiences heavy traffic and may become slow. In that case, wait a few minutes and try again. You can also try using a different browser or switching from WiFi to mobile data.

What If My Roll Number Is Not in the PDF?

If your roll number does not appear in the result PDF, it means you have not qualified for the written examination. UPSC does not separately notify candidates who are not selected. Candidates who do not qualify for the written exam cannot proceed to the SSB interview stage. You may appear for NDA 2 2026 if you are within the eligible age group. The NDA 2 2026 application window opens on May 20, 2026.

NDA 1 2026 Expected Cut Off Marks

The official NDA cut off is released by UPSC only after the final merit list is published, which happens after all SSB interviews are completed. However, based on exam difficulty level, number of vacancies, and historical trends, the expected cut off for NDA 1 2026 is:

Stage

Maximum Marks

Expected Cut Off 2026

Written Exam

900

350 – 365 marks

Final Merit List (Written + SSB)

1800

700 – 720 marks

Minimum Qualifying (per subject)

25% in each subject (mandatory)

Safe Score:
A score above 400 out of 900 in the written exam is generally considered a safe qualifier based on past trends. If your estimated score is between 350-400, you are in the borderline zone - result will depend on the exact cut off announced later.

Note: There is no category-wise cut off in NDA. The same cut off applies to all candidates - General, OBC, SC, and ST. However, the minimum 25% per subject rule is mandatory for everyone regardless of category.

Factors That Decide the NDA 1 2026 Cut Off

  • Number of vacancies: NDA 1 2026 has 394 vacancies. Fewer vacancies relative to applicants pushes the cut off higher.

  • Difficulty level of the paper: If the April 12 Maths paper was tougher, the cut off is likely on the lower end (300–330). If moderate, expect 340–365.

  • Total candidates who appeared: Approximately 3–4 lakh candidates appear for NDA every cycle.

  • Previous year unfilled vacancies: Any carryover vacancies from NDA 2 2025 may slightly affect the count.

NDA 1 2026 Marking Scheme & Score Calculator

Understanding the marking scheme helps you calculate your estimated score before the official result. UPSC uses different marking weights for Mathematics and GAT (General Ability Test).

Section

Total Marks

Correct Answer

Wrong Answer (Penalty)

Mathematics

300

+2.5 marks

−0.83 marks (1/3 of 2.5)

GAT (General Ability Test)

600

+4 marks

−1.33 marks (1/3 of 4)

Total Written

900

How to Calculate Your NDA Score

Mathematics Score Formula:
Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 2.5) − (Number of Wrong Answers × 0.83)

GAT Score Formula:
Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 4) − (Number of Wrong Answers × 1.33)

Total Written Score = Mathematics Score + GAT Score

Example: If you attempted 80 correct and 20 wrong in Maths, and 100 correct and 30 wrong in GAT:
Maths: (80 × 2.5) − (20 × 0.83) = 200 − 16.6 = 183.4
GAT: (100 × 4) − (30 × 1.33) = 400 − 39.9 = 360.1
Total Written Score = 543.5 out of 900

NDA SSB Interview Process - Complete Guide

Once the NDA 1 2026 written result is declared, shortlisted candidates must register on joinindianarmy.nic.in within two weeks. They will then be allotted an SSB date, venue, and call letter via their registered email. The SSB interview is a five-day process divided into two stages.

Stage 1 - Screening Tests (Day 1)

Stage 1 tests are conducted on the first day. Candidates who fail Stage 1 are sent home the same day.

  • Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test: A written test that evaluates reasoning ability, verbal and non-verbal intelligence. It consists of two separate booklets.

  • Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT): Candidates are shown a hazy picture for 30 seconds and asked to write a story based on it. They then discuss their stories in a group. Assessors evaluate communication, leadership potential, and presence of mind.

Stage 2 - Detailed Assessment (Days 2–5)

Candidates who clear Stage 1 undergo a comprehensive four-day assessment in Stage 2:

  • Psychology Tests (Day 2): Includes Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT), and Self Description (SD). These tests assess your personality, initiative, and social adaptability.

  • Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks (Days 3–4): Includes group discussions, military planning exercises, progressive group tasks, outdoor group tasks, half group tasks, individual obstacles, and command tasks. These evaluate your teamwork and leadership under pressure.

  • Personal Interview (During Days 2–4): A one-on-one interview with an Interviewing Officer assessing your background, interests, confidence, and suitability for officer training.

  • Conference Round (Day 5): All board members (psychologist, GTO, and IO) come together to discuss each candidate. You appear briefly at the conference. The final Recommend or Non-Recommend decision is given on Day 5 itself.

Important: There is no minimum qualifying mark for SSB. Candidates are rated holistically. Even a high written score cannot guarantee SSB selection - your personality, leadership qualities, and communication matter equally.

What to Do After NDA 1 2026 Result Is Declared?

If your roll number appears in the NDA 1 2026 written result PDF, here is what you need to do immediately:

  1. Register on joinindianarmy.nic.in within two weeks of result declaration. Use the same email ID you registered with during your UPSC application.

  2. Wait for SSB call letter — the date, time, and SSB centre location will be communicated via your registered email. Check your inbox (and spam folder) regularly.

  3. Prepare for SSB Stage 1 — start practising OIR tests and PPDT picture stories immediately.

  4. Gather your original documents — you must carry originals and photocopies of your 10th and 12th certificates, ID proof, and NDA admit card to the SSB centre.

  5. Begin physical fitness preparation — SSB includes physical tasks and your overall energy and fitness is observed by assessors throughout the five days.

UPSC releases scorecards only after the final merit list is published — which will happen after all SSB interviews are completed (expected Early 2027). The scorecard will show Maths marks, GAT marks, and SSB marks (for qualified candidates).

Didn't Qualify NDA 1 2026? Here's What to Do Next

If your roll number is not in the NDA 1 result PDF, do not be disheartened. Almost every NDA officer has faced this at some point. UPSC conducts NDA twice a year and you have multiple opportunities ahead.

NDA 2 2026 Application opens May 20, 2026 — just 12 days from today. If you are still within the eligible age group, start your application preparation now.

  • NDA 2 2026 Notification: Expected May 20, 2026

  • NDA 2 2026 Application Close: June 9, 2026

  • NDA 2 2026 Written Exam: Expected September 2026

Use the time between now and September to strengthen your weak areas. If you struggled in Maths, focus on Number Series, Trigonometry, and Algebra. If GAT was your weak point, build a habit of reading newspapers daily and revising static GK topics including History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, and Current Affairs.
