History of the Kargil Vijay Diwas

The Kargil Vijay Diwas History dates back to the winter of 1998–99 when the Pakistani military covertly infiltrated and occupied positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC) under 'Operation Badr '. Their aim was to weaken India's military position in the region and cut the link between Kashmir and Ladakh. The Indian Government retaliated by mobilising Army troops under ‘Operation Vijay’ against infiltrators. Later, under ‘ Operation Safed Sagar’, the Indian Air Force joined the war, providing air support and logistical assistance, followed by ‘‘Operation Talwar’ by the Indian Navy, which mounted pressure on enemy forces. Despite the dangerous terrain, extreme weather conditions, altitudes exceeding 18,000 feet, and being in a disadvantageous position in the beginning, the Indian Forces emerged victorious on July 26, 1999, reclaiming all the occupied territories. This victory in the Kargil War was a testament to the Indian military's bravery and unwavering national duty. The ‘26 July Kargil Vijay Diwas’ was carved in Indian history to honour the indomitable spirit and valour of the Indian armed forces. Also Check, Interesting Facts About Kargil Vijay Diwas
