BARC has released the interview shortlisting list for its recruitment drive. Candidates who appeared for the BARC exam should check their roll numbers against this list. Shortlisting for interviews occurs either through the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode or based on GATE scorecard performance.
An interview call is issued if either the GATE score or the CBT score exceeds the respective cutoff. The final selection process culminates in an interview, which carries 100% weightage for the final selection.
Shortlisting is based on CBT or GATE score
Candidates must exceed the branch-wise cutoff
Final selection = 100% Interview weightage
Cutoffs vary significantly across engineering branches
Even if you clear the cutoff, final selection depends only on interview performance.
BARC has not officially released a comprehensive PDF of cutoffs for all branches. However, the cutoffs for BARC 2023 (referred to as BARC 26) are visible to candidates when they log in to their respective candidate dashboards. The dashboard displays the cutoffs specific to their branch alongside their obtained marks.
| Engineering Branch | GATE Score Cutoff | CBT Marks Cutoff | Remarks |
| Computer Science Engineering | 851 | 136 | Highest cutoff |
| Electrical Engineering | 730 | 152 | High competition |
| Electronics & Communication | 759 | 107 | More applicants |
| Chemical Engineering | 662 | 132 | Moderate-high |
| Civil Engineering | 796 | 96 | Lower CBT cutoff |
| Mechanical Engineering | 660 | 87 | Lowest CBT cutoff |
| Instrumentation Engineering | 544 | 90 | Lowest GATE cutoff |
Understanding both modes is crucial:
CBT Total Marks: 300
GATE Score: Out of 1000
Eligibility: Last 3 years GATE score accepted
Candidates can qualify for an interview through either the CBT or GATE route.
Candidates can check their cutoff and scores by:
Visiting the official BARC portal
Logging in using credentials
Accessing the candidate dashboard
Viewing branch-wise cutoff and personal score
The cutoff is visible individually, not as a public PDF.
The cutoffs reveal distinct trends across various engineering branches:
Higher Side Cutoffs: Branches like Electrical Engineering (CBT: 152), Chemical Engineering (CBT: 132), and Computer Science Engineering (GATE: 851, CBT: 136) demonstrated relatively higher cutoffs.
Lower Side Cutoffs: Conversely, Mechanical Engineering (CBT: 87), Civil Engineering (CBT: 96), and Instrumentation Engineering (GATE: 544, CBT: 90) showed lower cutoff scores.
