Why Kushagra Mishra Chose GATE XE?

Kushagra Mishra, a BITS alumnus, worked at an aerospace R&D company in the UAV domain before deciding to pursue advanced research. He aimed for IISc, one of the leading institutes in his field, where a strong GATE score is required for admission. 

He is also planning to join IISc as a research assistant in a professor’s lab, with work focused on controls and optimization. Based on this experience, he will later decide between pursuing an MTech or a PhD. He chose Engineering Sciences (XE) because it is considered a more fundamental paper aligned with research-oriented goals.

Advice for Early GATE XE Preparation (Second Year)

For second-year students considering GATE XE, a key suggestion is to focus on the fundamentals. It is crucial to utilize a good textbook for each subject to build a strong base. gate xe is often considered a strong option and can be easier to score in compared to GATE Mechanical (ME), particularly if your aspirations are in research.

Kushagra's personal approach involved developing a deep interest in understanding the subject (e.g., fluid mechanics) itself, rather than viewing it solely as an exam. An internship at the National Aerospace Labs in Bangalore significantly contributed to his burgeoning interest in research. How He Selected Subjects for GATE XE

As a mechanical engineer, the typical optional subjects offered for GATE XE include Strength of Materials, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics. Kushagra had pre-decided to attempt Fluid Mechanics and Strength of Materials well before the actual examination. This decision was based exclusively on his understanding of the subjects. 

His rationale was that with strong concepts, he would be equipped to solve any question, thereby avoiding confusion and preventing valuable time loss during the exam itself when deciding which sections to attempt

Plans After GATE GATE XE

Kushagra's post-GATE ambition was singularly focused on securing admission to IISc Bangalore. There is a common perception that gate xe is harder than GATE Mechanical; however, his experience challenges this view. 

By preparing for only two to three months and achieving a good score, he demonstrated that it is indeed possible to attain strong marks in gate xe and secure admission to M.Tech programs at institutions like IISc or IITs, even with a relatively limited preparation timeframe.
