
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, one of India’s most competitive national-level engineering examinations, is set to begin on February 7. Conducted by IIT Guwahati, the exam will run until February 15 in computer-based test (CBT) mode at centres across the country. With multiple exam dates and two shifts per day, candidates must be well-prepared not only academically but also logistically. GATE 2026 will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, with two shifts scheduled each day.
Morning Shift: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Candidates should report to the examination centre 60–90 minutes before the time mentioned on the admit card for biometric and document verification. Late entry after gate closure is generally not allowed.
Entry into the examination hall will be permitted only after successful verification of documents. Candidates must carry:
A printed hard copy of the GATE 2026 admit card (preferably on A4-size paper)
An original and valid photo ID proof
Accepted ID proofs include Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, and PAN Card. The ID must be the same as used during registration. Photocopies or digital copies are not accepted.
GATE 2026 is a fully computer-based exam, and a virtual calculator will be provided on the screen. Candidates must not carry:
Mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic gadgets
Personal calculators
Notes, books, bags, or study material
Rough sheets will be provided at the centre. Candidates must write their name and registration number on the rough sheets before use.
Candidates are advised to wear simple and comfortable clothing and strictly follow instructions issued by invigilators. Any violation of exam rules may lead to cancellation of candidature. Aspirants should carefully read all instructions printed on the admit card, including requirements related to photographs, reporting time, and exam conduct.
