  • The background must be plain white and should not contain any objects or other persons.

  • The photograph should display a full frontal face view, with the candidate looking directly into the camera.

  • Candidates who normally wear spectacles may keep them on, but there should be no glare on the glasses. If glare cannot be avoided, spectacles should be removed.

  • Head coverings are allowed only for religious reasons, provided the complete facial features—from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both sides of the face—are clearly visible.

  • Photographs that do not meet these specifications may result in rejection of the GATE 2027 application, and the application fee will not be refunded.

Why Following GATE 2027 Photograph and Signature Guidelines Is Important

IIT Madras will scrutinize every uploaded document during the application verification process. Applications containing unclear photographs, incorrect signatures, or images that do not meet the prescribed specifications may be marked defective or rejected. Since the same photograph appears on the GATE 2027 Admit Card and Scorecard, candidates should upload clear and accurate images during registration.
