The qualifying marks for the GATE DA paper are announced along with the result and vary every year depending on the paper's difficulty level and overall candidate performance.
For the General category, the qualifying mark is calculated using the official formula:
General Category Qualifying Marks = max(25, min(40, μ + σ))
Where:
μ (mu) = Mean marks of all candidates who appeared for the DA paper
σ (sigma) = Standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared
The qualifying marks for other categories are calculated as follows:
OBC-NCL/EWS: (9/10) × General category qualifying marks
SC/ST/PwD: (2/3) × General category qualifying marks
As per the O.M. F. No. P-13013/75/2023-Policy-DD-III dated August 01, 2025, a PwD candidate in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms only), or cerebral palsy can request compensatory time of one hour, upon production of a valid disability certificate/UDID card.
For all other specified disabilities, compensatory time is allowed on production of a certificate confirming that the person concerned has a functional limitation to write, caused by the specified disability. Candidates should refer to Appendix-B1 of the official GATE 2027 brochure for complete details.
