The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is one of the most important national-level examinations for engineering graduates in India. Conducted every year by the IITs and IISc, the exam serves as a gateway to M.Tech, PhD admissions in premier institutes like IITs, IISc, and NITs, and is also used by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.
With the GATE 2026 examination now concluded, candidates across the country are eagerly waiting for the result announcement. Many are also looking at last year’s result timeline to estimate when the results might be released and how long the GATE score will remain valid.
As per the official schedule released by the organizing institute, IIT Guwahati, the GATE Result 2026 is scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2026.
The result will be published on the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) portal, where candidates can log in using their Enrollment ID or Email ID and password to check their scores.
Along with the result, candidates will also be able to see:
Marks obtained out of 100
Normalized GATE score out of 1000
All India Rank (AIR)
Looking at GATE 2025, which was conducted by IIT Roorkee, the result timeline followed a similar pattern to previous years. The examination was held on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025, and the results were officially declared on March 19, 2025. In that session, around 6.5 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, out of which approximately 18% qualified.
Over the years, the GATE result announcement has remained fairly consistent, with results typically released in the third week of March. Since GATE 2026 is following a similar schedule, candidates can expect the evaluation process and result declaration timeline to remain largely the same.
Candidates will be able to check the GATE Result 2026 through the official portal:
Official website:
gate2026.iitg.ac.in
Steps to check the result:
Visit the official GATE website.
Open the GOAPS login portal.
Enter Enrollment ID / Email ID and Password.
Click on the Results section.
View and download your scorecard and rank details.
Due to heavy traffic on result day, the website may slow down temporarily. Candidates are advised to keep their login credentials ready and check the result once the link is activated.
The GATE scorecard remains valid for three years from the date of result announcement.
For example, if the GATE 2025 result was announced in March 2025, the score will remain valid until March 2028.
The GATE score reflects the relative performance level of candidates in their respective subjects, making it a widely accepted benchmark for engineering aptitude.
The score can be used for:
Admission to M.Tech programs
Direct PhD admissions
Research programs in engineering and technology
Recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)
Once the results are announced, candidates can proceed with the next stages of admissions or recruitment.
Candidates seeking admission to IITs and IISc must participate in the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal).
Admissions to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs are conducted through CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech).
Many PSUs recruit engineers using GATE scores. Some major organizations include:
ONGC
GAIL
IOCL
NHPC
NPCIL
Candidates planning to apply for PSU jobs should regularly check the official career portals of these companies, as application deadlines often fall shortly after GATE results are announced.
