IIT Bombay & Tohoku Japan Joint Admission 2026: The Double Doctoral Degree Program (DDP) is a collaboration between IIT Bombay and Tohoku University (TU), Japan. It is a program that leads to a joint degree from both prestigious institutions. It offers highly valuable courses centred on new modern research areas. IIT Bombay & Tohoku Japan Joint Admission 2026 is open from March 25 to April 16.  A key feature of the DDP is joint supervision from faculty at both IIT Bombay and Tohoku University.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates who want to apply for the DDP program should meet the minimum eligibility requirements for filling out the application form. 

• Academic Qualification:

• First Class 60% marks for General Category candidates.

• 55% marks for SC/ST Category candidates.

• Eligible degrees include B.Tech, 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS/BSc), and ME/M.Tech.

• GATE Score: A valid GATE score card is mandatory for B.Tech/BE applicants.

Application Details & Program Benefits

• Application Dates: The application window is open from March 25th to April 16th.

• Visa and Living Support: Selected candidates receive assistance with visa processing and residence support for the duration of the stay in Japan.

• Program Duration: Participants spend 12 to 18 months at Tohoku University. The program includes chances to attend international conferences and publish research papers.

• No Age Restriction: There is no maximum age limit for applicants.

• Language Skills: Proficiency in Japanese is not required for this program.

• Financial Assistance: The program provides a fellowship, travel support, and various other benefits. Stipend provided to the students. 

• Housing Arrangements: Hostel facilities are provided at IIT Bombay, and accommodation is arranged at Tohoku University.

• Food and Expenses: Students are responsible for managing the food meals. 

Program Fees & Financial Assistance

• IIT Bombay Fees:
  Standard PhD fees at IIT Bombay are low and can usually be covered by one month’s stipend.

• Tohoku University Fees:
  Tohoku University does not charge any tuition fees, making the program free at the host university.

• Thesis & Final Exam:
  The program ends with one joint thesis defence and submission.

Study Plan

• First Year:
  Completed at IIT Bombay.

• Second Year onwards:
  Students spend 1–2 years at Tohoku University, Japan.
